The Portfolio Optimization Analyst will directly support and partner with the Senior VP, Hedging and Portfolio Optimization to develop and implement data-driven strategies to translate market information into actionable business intelligence to more efficiently optimize the overall portfolio value of the Alpha Generation fleet of assets. The ideal candidate will have strong programming and analytical skills, proficiency in data science techniques and a desire to grow into a trading role. This role is viewed as a natural and prior step in the career arc of a Cash Trader at AlphaGen.
- Portfolio Optimization: Develop and maintain optimization and forecasting models to maximize portfolio value while managing risk, using techniques such as polynomial regression, stochastic modeling, and machine learning.
- Data Analysis and Modeling: Analyze large datasets related to energy market data (e.g., energy prices, supply/demand fundamentals, transmission, etc.) to identify trends, patterns, and optimization opportunities.
- Automation: Develop scripts and tools to automate data collection, processing, and analysis workflows.
- Reporting: Create dashboards, visualizations, and reports to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Data Management: Collect, systematize, and store large technical datasets from varying sources to assist in transforming market intelligence into actionable insights that support optimization strategies.
- Trading Support: Provides timely analysis and recommendations to support trading activities including cash and term hedging, portfolio optimization, and risk management.
- Continuous Improvement: Identifies and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and best practices to enhance the optimization of analysis and trading activities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with trading, origination and risk control to align data-driven insights with business objectives.
- High levels of proficiency with Python, SQL, Snowflake Power BI, Spotfire, and Excel.
- 1-3 years of experience as an energy analyst would be preferred.
- Strong experience with data management and market analysis of large data sets.
- Prior experience creating management reports and dashboards for senior management.
- Strong experience with data management and market analysis, and manipulation is a must.
- Power industry background is a bonus but not required.
- Ability to collaborate, thinking analytically while communicating complex issues to nontechnical audiences.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Operates well in a fast-paced environment, with a desire to expand professional knowledge and grow into a trading, origination or similar commercial role.
- Undergraduate degree or higher (graduate degree preferred) in mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, or a related field.
