Pipeline and Damage Prevention Technician

The Opportunity

Our Regional Pipeline Operations team is looking to add an experienced Pipeline & Damage Prevention Technician to the team in Les Cedres, Quebec. In this role you will be expected to answer and complete Ontario 1 Call locates that are submitted to TCE and respond to any unauthorized crossings and/or encroachments. You will also learn to operate, maintain, test, and inspect our natural gas pipeline, valves and associated pipeline building assemblies in a manner which meets operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will provide oversight for and execute our organization’s pipeline operations and maintenance program, damage prevention program as well as provide support to the transfer compressor operation. This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent troubleshooting, problem solving and communication skills.

The role is overtime eligible and will be part of an on-call rotating schedule in which you will be subject to call-out for emergency response. The regular work schedule will be:

- Week 1: Monday to Thursday 9 hours / day; Friday is an 8-hour day

- Week 2: Monday to Thursday 9 hours / day; Friday is a Regular Day Off (RDO)

What you’ll do

- Perform inspections, troubleshooting and repair on equipment such as actuators, valves, stem seals, and other related components

- Plan and lead pipeline isolation, blowdowns and other gas handling activities including installation and operation of air movers/expellers

- Conduct pipeline purging, loading and bleed ins to pressurize pipelines, and complete return to service activities

- Provide support as necessary to the operation of transfer compressor for pipeline pull downs

- Perform One Call line locates

- Perform gas leak surveys as reported by aerial patrols

- Perform and assist with various tasks associated with in-line inspection programs

- Complete preventative and corrective maintenance PMs/CMs as required and close out work orders.

- Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new notifications, etc. in SAP

- Operate and maintain natural gas pipelines and associated equipment

- Read and interpret alignment sheets

- Lead/manage the safe and efficient completion of low to high complexity projects to include the coordination and monitoring of contractor work activities or third-party active control

- Provide coaching, mentoring and training to other personnel

- Assist with all types of line crossings (foreign or seismic) of TC Energy pipeline assets

- Complete basic “as built” prints and update related documentation with respect to One Call and pipeline related schematics

- Identify encroachment issues, report and manage unauthorized activities

- Communicate and provide damage prevention education to contractors, the general public, landowners, and government agencies relative to gas operations

- Assist with general pipeline right-of-way (ROW) maintenance activities such as erosion or sink hole repairs, line patrols, and installation of identification signs and posts

- Complete LDAR repairs, planned and corrective maintenance as required

- Provide on call support to the region

- Perform tasks from other disciplines

Minimum Qualifications

- Minimum completion of third year of trades program or two years of technical training from a recognized institution

- 2 years of relevant work experience

- Proven Mechanical knowledge, skills and experience

Preferred Qualifications

- 5 years relevant work experience related to Pipelines

- Experience with valve and valve operator operation, inspection, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting

- Experience operating and maintaining high pressure natural gas pipelines and/or facilities

- Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and/or SAP experience

This position requires candidates to:

- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review

- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing

- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training will be required (estimated up 50% of work schedule)

- Participate in an on-call schedule

- Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures

Le candidat retenu assurera la supervision et l'exécution du programme d'exploitation et d'entretien des pipelines de notre organisation, du programme de prévention des dommages ainsi que le soutien au fonctionnement du compresseur de transfert. Cette personne doit être autonome, capable de travailler avec un minimum de supervision, et posséder d'excellentes compétences en dépannage, résolution de problèmes et communication.

Le poste est éligible aux heures supplémentaires et fera partie d'un horaire de rotation de garde pendant lequel vous serez sujet à être appelé pour une intervention d'urgence. L'horaire de travail régulier sera :

Semaine 1 : Lundi au jeudi 9 heures / jour; vendredi est une journée de 8 heures

Semaine 2 : Lundi au jeudi 9 heures / jour; vendredi est un jour de congé régulier (RDO)

Vos tâches

- Effectuer des inspections, du dépannage et des réparations sur des équipements tels que les actionneurs, les valves et autres composants connexes

- Planifier et diriger l'isolation des pipelines, les purges et autres activités de manipulation de gaz, y compris l'installation et l'exploitation de expulseurs d'air

- Effectuer la purge des pipelines, le rechargement et les saignées pour mettre les pipelines sous pression, et compléter le retour en service

- Fournir le soutien nécessaire au fonctionnement du compresseur de transfert pour les abaissements de pression des pipelines

- Effectuer les localisations de lignes du service InfoExcavation

- Réaliser des relevés de fuites de gaz signalées par les patrouilles aériennes

- Effectuer et aider aux diverses tâches associées aux programmes d'inspection interne

- Compléter l'entretien préventif et correctif (PMs/CMs) selon les besoins et clôturer

- les bons de travail.

- Compléter les bons de travail, saisir des données dans les plans de travail, créer de nouvelles notifications, etc. dans SAP

- Exploiter et entretenir les gazoducs et équipements associés

- Lire et interpréter les feuilles d'alignement

- Diriger/gérer la réalisation sécuritaire et efficace de projets de complexité faible à élevée, incluant la coordination et la surveillance des activités de travail des entrepreneurs ou le contrôle actif par des tiers

- Offrir du coaching, du mentorat et de la formation à d'autres membres du personnel

- Aider avec tous types de croisements de lignes (étrangères ou sismiques) des actifs de pipeline de TC Énergie

- Compléter les plans "tels que construits" de base et mettre à jour la documentation relative au service InfoExcavation et aux schémas liés aux pipelines

- Identifier les problèmes d'empiètement, signaler et gérer les activités non autorisées

- Communiquer et fournir une éducation sur la prévention des dommages aux entrepreneurs, au grand public, aux propriétaires fonciers et aux agences gouvernementales concernant les opérations gazières

- Aider aux activités générales d'entretien de l'emprise (ROW) des pipelines telles que les réparations d'érosion ou de trous d'affaissement, les patrouilles de lignes et l'installation de panneaux et poteaux d'identification

- Compléter les réparations de détection et réparation des fuites (LDAR), l'entretien planifié et correctif selon les besoins

- Fournir un soutien de garde à la région

- Effectuer des taches de d'autres disciplines

Qualifications minimales

- Avoir complété au minimum la troisième année d'un programme de métiers ou deux ans de formation technique d'une institution reconnue

- 2 ans d'expérience de travail pertinente

- Connaissances, compétences et expérience mécaniques variées

Qualifications préférées

- 5 ans d'expérience de travail pertinente liée aux pipelines

- Expérience avec l'exploitation, l'inspection, l'entretien, la réparation et le dépannage de valves et d’actionneurs de valves

- Expérience dans l'exploitation et l'entretien de gazoducs et/ou d'installations à haute pression

- Expérience avec un système informatisé de gestion de la maintenance (CMMS) et/ou SAP
