Job Summary:
A commercial refrigeration pipefitter is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing the piping systems within commercial refrigeration units, such as those found in grocery stores, restaurants, and convenience stores, by laying out, cutting, threading, bending, and assembling pipes and fittings according to blueprints and specifications, ensuring proper functionality and compliance with safety regulations; often requiring knowledge of refrigerant handling and leak detection techniques.

Duties/Responsibilities:
•Installation: Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to plan pipe layout. Select appropriate pipe sizes and materials based on project requirements. Cut, thread, and bend pipes using hand tools and machinery. Assemble and install pipes, fittings, and supports using proper joining methods (brazing, soldering, welding). Mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceilings. Install refrigeration components like compressors, condensers, evaporators, and controls.
•Maintenance and Repair: Inspect existing refrigeration systems for leaks, damage, and wear. Locate and repair leaks using leak detection tools Replace worn or damaged components Perform routine maintenance tasks like cleaning and lubricating system parts Troubleshoot system malfunctions and diagnose issues
•Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols related to refrigerant handling and high-pressure systems Follow proper procedures for evacuating and charging refrigerant. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain a clean and organized work area
•Compliance with regulations: Adhering to local and federal safety standards regarding refrigerants, proper handling procedures, and documentation.
•Parts ordering and inventory management: Identifying necessary replacement parts and ensuring proper stock levels.
Required Skills/Abilities:
•Proficiency in pipe cutting, threading, bending, and joining techniques
•Knowledge of different types of pipe materials (copper, steel, etc.)
•Understanding of refrigeration system principles and components
•Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
•Basic knowledge of welding or brazing techniques
•Ability to work flexible hours and be willing to be on call.
•Adherence to safety protocols related to refrigerant handling, electrical safety, and working in confined spaces.
Education and Experience:
•2-year college/trade school certification or equivalent work experience.
•Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license with a clean driving record.
•Strong Customer Service Skills.
•Strong Communication skills (both verbal and written).

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
•Exposure to cold temperatures and potential exposure to chemical refrigerants.
•Primarily working in commercial kitchens, food storage areas, and backrooms of businesses.
•Prolonged periods of walking and standing.
•Occasional kneeling, reaching, lifting.
•Work in confined or tight spaces.
•Must be able to lift 50 pounds consistently; up to 75 pounds occasionally (with assistance).
