ROLE:
The Pipefitter Apprentice is responsible for installing, assembling, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing mechanical piping systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:•Cut, thread and hammer pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders and benders.
•Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
•Join pipe sections using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment, according to blueprints and job specifications.
•Inspect, examine and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
•Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
•Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints.
•Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
•Select pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.?
•Rigging and hoisting pipe sections, steel frames, valves, shoes, plus misc. piping attachments with cranes, picker trucks and side booms.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications:•Must have Journeyperson Pipefitter Certification or alternatively be an Apprentice from a recognized provincial training authority.
•Various safety tickets/certificates as required depending on project.
Experience:
•Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial construction or pipeline industry
•Minimum 2 years of experience as a Pipefitter in facilities construction would be an asset
Skills and Knowledge:
•Knowledge of industrial construction or pipeline construction industry.
•Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
•Ability to concentrate on detailed work for long periods of time.
•Safety conscientious as well as a team player.
•Be able to plan and organize small tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is field based and often works within remote project locations. Travel and/or living in temporary accommodations will be required. Must be available to work a 15 days on 6 days off schedule with 11.5 hour days for the duration of the project.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Pipefitter Apprentice reports to the Foreperson of their crew. The position has no supervisory duties.
