Position Description:
Perform permitting and detailed design work, including the preparation of permit drawings, route of line drawings, construction book development, schedule support, as-built support, specifications, and estimates for review and approval by the responsible engineer. Responsible for supporting Transmission, Substation, and Protection Engineers and producing timely and accurate drawing packages for complex power delivery projects and proposals, including plan and profile views and elevations, single-line and three-line diagrams, electrical interconnect drawings, structural/electrical details, and a detailed bill of materials. All work must be done to applicable CAD, NESC, regulatory, and engineering standards.
Essential Functions of Position:
•Shall have a thorough knowledge of the practices and procedures about technical matters in one or more of the following areas:
•Instrumentation and Control
Permitting Authority Rules and Requirements
Shall perform with a minimum of supervision, a variety of design-related duties, including, but not limited to, the following:
•Prepare manual or computer-assisted permit drawings, design, and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and minimal errors.
•Perform permit and design services, which require a full understanding of the drawings, specifications, and industry and company standards covering the assigned work.
•Take a role in preparing cost estimates, specifications, evaluations, and requisitions.
•Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations.
•Coordinate equipment deliveries and design development to meet project schedules.
•Acquire on-site field data to accomplish the design or to monitor and evaluate equipment performance.
•Design experience with civil foundations, steel detailing, and electrical power equipment such as support structures and insulators.
•Solid understanding of design drafting practices and engineering systems utilized in the power industry
•Ability to develop Plan View and Elevation schematics from one and three-line diagrams
•Demonstrated knowledge of desktop computers and Microsoft Office products
•Demonstrated familiarity with web-based design collaboration sites and drawing management systems
•Ability to work independently and effectively interface with a multi-disciplinary engineering team and project managers
•Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills

•Prior experience following quality assurance processes while working in a project's schedule-driven environment
•Customer-focused with the ability to adapt to various customer standards

•Lead and initiate job package review
•Constantly improving job package review processes
•Creating new processes and procedures to streamline line design and design efficiencies
•Create job package (permit and engineering design) templates for new and existing projects.
•Independently request when working on downtime
•Assist with training and mentoring new employees
Position Requirements:
•Associate's degree in Drafting and Design Technology OR a minimum of 8 years progressive work experience
•Minimum of 4 years of experience designing electrical schematics, substation physical drawings, and creating detailed bills of material, and using AutoCAD
