As a Storage Operator II, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our natural gas storage facilities. This position involves monitoring and maintaining system pressures, flow rates, and compression requirements to meet customer nominations. You’ll work in a dynamic environment that requires technical expertise, quick decision-making, and a strong commitment to safety and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Monitor, adjust, and maintain storage system pressures, flow rates, and compression requirements in coordination with Storage Gas Controller.
- Operate and maintain facility equipment, including compressors, cooling systems, cavern wellheads, dehydration systems, vapor recovery systems, thermal oxidizers, and safety systems.
- Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on facility equipment, pipelines, and auxiliary systems.
- Operate leaching, backwashing, and de-brining systems, as well as truck loading/unloading systems.
- Respond promptly to abnormal and emergency operating conditions.
- Complete internal and external reports, Maximo work orders, and maintain compliance with PHMSA, FERC, DOT, TXRRC, LADNR, and company policies.
- Support maintenance and capital projects, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and contractor oversight.
- Monitor security systems, alarms, and control facility access gates.
- Handle administrative tasks such as answering calls, processing one-calls, and routing correspondence.
- Maintain Operator Qualification and Storage Training credentials, and operate specialized equipment (forklifts, aerial lifts, scissor lifts).
- Participate in audits, budgeting processes, and continuous improvement initiatives for safety and efficiency.
- Perform general facility upkeep, including signage, inventory, and leak repairs.
- Remain on-site during extreme weather events as needed to maintain operations.
- Actively participate in safety programs and foster a collaborative team environment.
- Associate degree or technical school certificate OR 1–3 years of relevant experience; high school diploma required.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to reside within 30 miles of the assigned facility.
- Strong leadership qualities with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends, shifts, on-call, and travel overnight as required.
- Physically capable of performing demanding tasks in all weather conditions.
- Knowledge of high-speed reciprocating, turbine, and electric compression units.
- Experience with underground storage facilities, pipeline operations, and associated equipment.
- Strong technical and analytical skills; ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Innovative problem-solving skills and commitment to safety.
- Safety-sensitive role requiring adherence to company and regulatory standards.
- Dynamic, high-pressure environment with 24/7 operational coverage; holiday and overtime work required.
- Must be able to remain on-site during extreme weather events when necessary.
- Must reside within 30 miles of the facility.
