Job Summary
PIC Group is seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of a 29MW Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant in Louisiana. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Supervisor will oversee daily plant operations, including startup, shutdown, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance coordination, while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards. This role provides leadership and direction to operations personnel, manages shift activities, optimizes plant performance, and serves as the on-site decision-maker after normal business hours to maintain continuous and effective plant operations.
Key Project Requirements•Power Plant Operations Experience – Hands-on experience with startup, shutdown, troubleshooting, and maintenance in CHP, solid fuel-fired, or steam turbine plants, including familiarity with carbon black handling or combustion processes.
•Leadership & Supervisory Experience – Proven ability to lead shift personnel, oversee operations, and enforce safety and environmental compliance.
•Safety & Regulatory Knowledge – Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, LOTO, high-energy systems, and emissions monitoring (CEMS).
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
•Supervise and oversee startup, shutdown, inspections, troubleshooting, switching, tagging, and chemical testing, including processes related to carbon black combustion, handling, or emissions control.
•Maximize plant efficiency while maintaining safety, environmental compliance, and long-term viability, with a focus on managing carbon black byproducts and mitigating operational impacts.
•Supervise and oversee startup, shutdown, inspections, troubleshooting, switching, tagging, and chemical testing.
•Manage daily operations, preventive and predictive maintenance, and support corrective maintenance efforts.
•Assist with budget preparation, reporting, and administrative tasks to maintain efficient plant operations.
•Lead training, development, and performance evaluation of O&M Technicians.
•Serve as the site representative after hours, ensuring operational continuity.
•Communicate with internal teams, customers, vendors, contractors, and regulators.
•Provide shift coverage as needed, including responding to off-hour call-ins.
Job Requirements
•Strong written, verbal, and mathematical skills for technical communication and reporting.
•In-depth knowledge of power plant safety, high-energy systems, chemical handling, heavy equipment, and confined space procedures.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and maintenance management systems.
•Solid understanding of physics, electrical theory (AC/DC), chemistry, thermodynamics, and fluid flow.
•Experience with valves, switches, controls, and plant instrumentation.
•Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (blueprints, P&IDs, schematics).
•Hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, equipment adjustments, and instrumentation systems.
•Experience with combustion processes, emissions control, and handling of byproducts such as carbon black in power generation or industrial applications.
•Familiarity with boiler, turbine, burner management, combustion control, and carbon black impact on plant operations and emissions (CEMS).
Physical Requirements
•Sit, stand, walk, or climb and stoop or kneel. The employee will be required to be able to access all areas within the plant. Climbing stairs and ladders and maneuvering in awkward positions are all required
•Frequently lift objects of up to 10 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to lift or move objects of up to 25 pounds in weight. In addition, the employee will push or pull up to 25 pounds in weight occasionally
Education / Experience
•A high school diploma or equivalent.
•3+ years power plant related experience
•3 years supervisory or managerial experience
•Experience with a solid fuel fired power plant preferred
