Operate facility to meet daily production goals within safe and legal limits. Monitor and manage generation imbalance to minimize any cost impact to the plant. Employ best in class techniques to enhance plant performance (capacity, heat rate, and availability).
Oversee the activities of the operations staff in the daily running of the plant. Report normal, abnormal, or emergency plant conditions to the Plant Manager. Take necessary corrective action in accordance with established policy or at the direction of the Plant Manager.
Oversee and manage operations staffing, training, and qualification plans for pre-commercial and commercial O&M phases. Assist with the location, screening, and hiring of plant personnel. Ensure goals of all operations personnel are aligned with goals of facility and Owner. Maintain plant Training Manual.
Provide safe working environment and promote attitude of safety awareness for all plant personnel including actively ensuring the safety of others.
Work together with the Maintenance Manager to identify maintenance activities, which are required to maintain and enhance the operability of the plant. Work together with the Plant Engineer/Asset Manager to identify and implement plant improvement projects to enhance operational flexibility and performance.
Ensure that operation of the plant is compliant with all applicable environmental permits and regulations. Prepare and submit required environmental and regulatory reports. Maintain the Environmental QA/QC Manual.
Ensure that the Water Chemistry Program is properly implemented and managed, including testing, inspections, and maintenance of the water treatment program. Provide guidance to the Lab Technician in administering the chemistry program.
Knowledge in Statistical Process Controls (SPC) and can develop plant Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
Enhance image of plant as a good neighbor to the community and the environment. Encourage involvement and participation of operations plant staff in community activities.
Provide necessary reports to the Owner and/or Utilities. Oversee the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and records.
Provide leadership to all plant personnel. Conduct periodic reviews of plant operating policies and procedures to ensure they reflect current plant goals, operating requirements, and the industry’s best in class. Enhance the morale and motivation of operations personnel and handle employee concerns in a timely manner.
Complete special projects as required by the Plant Manager.
Dependable, reliable and predictable attendance is required for this position.
Must possess a valid, in-state motor vehicle operator’s license at all times.
Must have a working knowledge and the ability to assist with the ongoing technical development and review of plant engineering processes, chemistry program compliance, and diagnostics of plant equipment.
Must have a working knowledge of power plant regulatory requirements to ensure that the plant remains in compliance with all of its environmental permits and plans.
Must be able to handle multiple job assignments on a daily basis while meeting divisional objectives and deadlines; strong time-management skills necessary.
Must have strong leadership, motivational, and communication (oral and written) skills, including the ability to communicate effectively to large groups.
Must have demonstrated skills in plant performance improvement, environmental management, and personnel management.
History of development of innovative and creative problem solving approaches to improving various aspects of facility performance including technical, personnel, and business.
BS in Engineering and/or with six or more years of experience in the operations of power generating facilities, including significant exposure to combined cycle or steam cycle plants. Three or more years of supervisory experience are required.

Standing/Walking: Must be able to stand for long periods of time and walk to various areas throughout the plant.
Bending/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to bend, stoop or kneel down to work with equipment or materials. Must be able to work in confined spaces.
Stair/Ladder Climbing: Must be able to climb stairs and/or ladders on equipment at the plant. Must be able to walk on platforms at high altitudes (80 feet or higher)
Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and pull or push equipment or materials.
Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type, and use a phone system.
Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with probable weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. Position will require on-call status. Protective clothing and equipment is required for plant site.
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening; and random drug screening during employment. Extensive smoking restrictions exist in and around the facility.
