Job Description
Position Overview
The O&M Technician/Operating Engineer will work as a shift team member and be responsible for the safe and proper operation and preventative maintenance of the power generation facility. Equipment includes gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generators, air compressors, water treatment equipment, motors, pumps, piping and other auxiliary equipment. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.
Responsibilities
•The position reports to the Operations Manager and works a regularly scheduled rotating shift and is subject to scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
•Operate the facility during start-up, shutdown, normal and emergency conditions in accordance with operating procedures and instructions to maintain a safe and efficient operation.
•Perform plant equipment rounds, recording instrumentation and other data as well as visual inspections to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
•Perform water chemistry analysis where applicable.
•Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and or control systems in a power generation facility.
•Maintain compliance with all administrative, operational, NERC/IESO, EH&S, TSSA, Hydro One and other regulatory requirements and procedures.
•Perform/direct housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean safe work environment and professional appearance.
•Provide detailed status of plant conditions to the Lead O&M Technician/Shift Engineer and relief at shift change.
•Work within and ensure strict adherence to all safety and environmental procedures.
•Use computerized maintenance management system to initiate work orders for material deficiencies noted during shift operations.
Required Qualifications/Skills
•3rd Class with 2nd Class exams written will be considered
•Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
•Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
•Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts as required.
•Wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
•Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
•High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
•2nd Class Operating Engineer
•Technical degree/diploma; education in mechanical, electrical, or instrument and controls.
•Experience on GE 7FA gas turbines.
•2 Years combined cycle power plant or utilities experience.
•Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
