This position has a target hiring timeline of Q3-Q4 2025. As an armed Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) at Plant Vogtle near Augusta, Georgia you will be part of a well-trained Security Organization charged with ensuring safety of personnel and nuclear reactor systems. The high security environment requires an elevated standard of mental and physical readiness in order to successfully deter and defeat the “Design Basis Threat (DBT).”

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Summary of Position Duties:

The Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) reports to the Shift Lieutenant and supports daily shift activities which maintain site physical security. The responsibilities of the NSO include the following activities:

- Continuous focus on SAFETY

- Main gate and protected area access control

- Vehicle search and escort

- Personnel screening and search

- Protected area and vital area patrols

- Armed tactical contingency response

- Live-fire weapons training

- Annual testing and re-qualification

- Dependable VIGILANCE at all times, 24/7 Sentry-posts

Job Requirements:

Educational / Background / Experience Requirements:

- High School diploma or GED is required

- Two (2) years law enforcement, military, corrections facility, or armed security experience desired

Technical Requirements:

- Current knowledge of security technology

- Basic computer skills

- Experience in dealing with regulations and procedures

Essential Physical / Mental Requirements:

- Interpersonal skills / perform in team setting

- Respirator qualifiable

- Firearms skills

- Physical requirements: see, hear, speak, stand, walk, run, climb, heavy lifting, push, pull, bend, stoop, squat

- Physical strength & dexterity

- Ability to work in temperature extremes

- Problem solving skills

- Organizational skills

- Analytical skills

- Ability to comprehend & implement detailed regulatory requirements

- Oral and written communication skills

- Ability to work in radiological controlled areas

- Available to work callout (overtime)

- Mentally and physically fit-for-duty

- NRC Medical Qualified for Security Officers per 10 CFR 73 appendix B

Other Requirements:

- Overtime should be expected; normal range is 10 to 20%

- Must be at least 21 years of age

- Successful completion of onsite physical abilities test

- Selection process may require multiple separate visits to the facility to complete all criteria

- Successfully meeting background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements

- Successful candidate is required to serve on the Emergency Response organization AND live within one (1) hour of the SNC Emergency Operations Facility for emergency response availability
