Summary Reporting directly to the Ferrous/Non-Ferrous Operations Manager, the Ferrous/Non-Ferrous Specialist is responsible for daily purchasing and sorting of non-ferrous metal. This includes managing the receipt, sorting, processing, and shipping of nonferrous scrap metal to meet industry and customer specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Day-to-day purchasing of all non-ferrous metals ensuring smooth workflows.
- Oversee inventory accuracy, including conducting regular physical audits in line with company standards.
- Collaborate with freight transportation teams and Ferrous/Non-Ferrous Operations Manager to ensure accuracy on Bills of Lading and material shipped out.
- Ensure proper grading and pricing processes are followed at all times.
- Complies promotes and supports all environmental and safety policies
- Deliver outstanding customer service to all scrap suppliers, ensuring positive and productive relationships.
- Organize and sort differing types of non-ferrous commodities.
- Handle various yard operations tasks to ensure continuous, efficient material flow and overall yard functionality.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Be on time and at work daily.
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
- Strong knowledge of non-ferrous/ferrous metal recycling processes, equipment, and industry standards.
- Excellent buying and sales skills to foster long-term relationships with suppliers and customers.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and safety guidelines.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to troubleshoot equipment or operational issues quickly.
- Proficient in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, inventory management software, email, etc.).
- Resourcefulness and initiative in ensuring the success of both the department and the company.
- Willingness to work various shifts, including Saturdays.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications in metals processing or related fields are a plus.
- Preferred: 3-5 years of experience in metal recycling or related industrial operations.
