Works for and under the general direction of the Manager, IT Networks, this role is responsible for assisting with establishing, managing and maintaining standards, monitoring, and operational performance of systems and hardware related to Star Group's IT infrastructure and applications.
As a key member of this team, you'll be instrumental in participating in the design, deployment and monitoring of IT infrastructure systems ensuring security, stability and efficiency of the systems to support Star Group's business initiatives.
This is NOT A REMOTE position. This a hybrid model, which will require 2-3 days per week on site at the Nassau county Long Island NY location.
Responsibilities
In this role, you'll help plan, design, implement and support a variety of complex infrastructure related projects including delivery of wide area and local area network services, wireless services and security platforms. Working with the IT Networking team you will lead or assist the team to:
•Design, implement and administer IT infrastructure service delivery including wide area network connectivity between locations, local area networks, physical and virtual servers, load balancing, and service delivery of applications and resources.
•Design, implement and administer internet security services including firewalls, reverse proxy technologies, secure remote application delivery, remote access platforms, web filtering, and secure file transfers.
•Evaluate, test, and install appropriate software tools to monitor system alerts, events, changes and activities that may impact performance or security
•Research, troubleshoot and resolve system errors, failures and other problems; install and test system patches, releases, upgrades and fixes.
•Assess and resolve technology issues related to hardware, software and systems integration problems and administration issues, determine potential solutions to resolve and prevent service interruptions and drive to resolution.
•Understand and communicate impact of changes in systems and applications on IT operations.
•Implement and follow policies and procedures for change and incident management; documents technical problems, resolutions and processes.
•Communicate with consultants and contract vendors as required; may provide project and technical guidance defining scope of project including project technical requirements, budget, schedules and critical project milestones.
Qualifications
•Must be proficient in networking technologies, with significant hands-on experience with software-defined WAN, local area and wireless networking, firewalls, VPNs and secure communications.
•Must have a thorough understanding of perimeter security technologies and design topologies including reverse proxy deployments, remote multi-factor authentication and access, and secure application delivery technologies.
•Must have a strong grasp of IT infrastructure and operating systems, including Windows Server operating systems, Microsoft AD, and virtual networking and be able to apply that knowledge to deliver applications and systems in high-performance configurations.
•Provide practical security best-practice guidance to company-wide IT initiatives, monitor and enforce IT security policies.
•Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose system incidents. Includes gathering empirical data and analysis to develop technical solutions.
•Ability to accurately log and own/escalate incidents resulting from infrastructure events and provide accurate, timely and professional documentation on all supported issues.
•Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for IT infrastructure and IT security issues, including troubleshooting and restoration of services.
•Perform routine maintenance activities including operating system upgrades, patching, and development of technical documentation.
•Evaluates services provided by vendors and recommends changes.
•Industry certifications preferred.
Minimum Requirements
•Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university or appropriate certifications from industry technical training program.
•3+ years of relevant IT work experience managing mid-size or larger system environment.
•Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to provide the “basic” explanation of technology for nontechnical managers, directors and above.
•Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
•Self-motivated and the ability to work under limited supervision.
•Industry technical certifications a plus.
•Demonstrates character, integrity and ethical values.

•Travel throughout footprint as needed, when needed

The salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year.
