As an integral part of the Mill Operations team, the main purpose of the Mill Supervisor will effectively supervise a team of mill operators while maintaining a safe and collaborative work environment.
- Ensure safe work systems/procedures are always practised and adhered to ensuring duties are performed in a manner that minimises risk to self, employees, and contractors
- Maintain exemplary standard of housekeeping at all times, safe work, incident/accident reporting & active involvement in safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
- Abide by and proactively comply with Company policies, procedures, guidelines, and systems, as well as all relevant legislation.
- Understand and familiarise oneself with site Emergency evacuation procedures
- Display conduct which is aligned with company Core Values, Policies and Procedures.
- Lead by example and actively participate to achieve department and company goals and objectives.
- Initiate and provide input into company directives in collaboration with the Site Management team.
- Communicate department obligations and conditions to the leadership team, ensuring specific understanding and accountability
- Support and follow all lawful instructions/directives from direct supervisor.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and take responsibility for own conduct and behaviour in the workplace.
- Ensure good, clear lines of communication between all stakeholders, including the Site Management team, co-workers, and contractors
- Oversee the performance of the mill operators
- Ensure that all personnel in his/her charge know and follow the company’s policies, procedures, and standards for
work and safety, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants
- Ensure that mill production targets are met as forecast
- Inform the Mill Operations team of production goals, schedules and priorities.
- Plan and execute day to day maintenance activities.
- Inspect the process regularly to ensure downtime is minimised.
- Establish and maintain an exemplary standard of housekeeping.
- Actively monitor problem areas, rectify the process and report faults to the Mill Superintendent.
- Work closely with the Metallurgical department to maximize mill efficiency.
- Ensure operating parameters are followed while trying to minimize reagent use and maximize gold recovery.
- Assist in the development SOPs.
- Be proactive in the development and use of SLR’s safety systems.
- Provide timely, accurate and well-communicated shift reports and cross-shift summaries.
- Plan and conduct daily and monthly safety meetings with the Operations team.
- Participate in managing operating costs within the mill department.
- Complete and review performance evaluations with employees.
- Conduct accident/incident investigations as necessary or as directed by Mill Superintendent
