- This is a part time position with no benefits.
As a
Part Time Meter Technician, you will perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks involving the replacement, repair and relocation of existing water meters. You will also observe and report meter and/or service defects, perform meter and route maintenance, make repairs to meters and meter lids.
This position will be responsible for
reading water meter routesduring absences of full-time staff.
Customer service
is of utmost importance as you respond to customer complaints or inquiries regarding water pressure or meter malfunctions or reports of damaged and inoperative meters and services.
You will notify customers of service interruptions, answers questions and informs customers about matters dealing with observed leaks, service problems and general information in a tactful manner in order to enhance customer relations; refers customers to the appropriate department or individual.
To qualify for the
Part Time Meter Technicianposition, you must:
- Possess a valid Class C California driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the district’s vehicle insurance policy.
- Have education experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a GED
- Have a minimum of one year of experience in maintenance, mechanical or technical related field.
Successful Part Time Meter Technicians possess a solid understanding of basic arithmetic, recordkeeping, and district geography. They are skilled in the
safeuse of tools, methods, and equipment for installing and maintaining water meters ranging from 3/4-inch to 2 inches. Proficiency in operating motorized vehicles and utility tools is essential, along with the ability to follow instructions,
accuratelyrecord data, and use GIS and other software systems. The role requires
physical staminafor fieldwork in various weather conditions and
strong interpersonal skillsto maintain effective working relationships.
