The Role
We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Meter Technician. Reporting to the Manager, Metering & Technical Services, this position plays a key role in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of metering systems and associated distribution equipment.
This is an on-site position at 1340 Brant Street, Burlington, and is a unionized role governed by the collective agreement.
What You Will Do
- Complete all tasks safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Electrical Utility Safety Rules, and Burlington Hydro policies and procedures
- Support the design, planning, coordination, operation, and maintenance of all metering systems in accordance with Measurement Canada, ESA, OEB, IESO, and other regulatory requirements
- Install, remove, test, and maintain metering equipment and systems, including troubleshooting and verifying accuracy
- Interrogate and program meters, resolve communication issues, and develop solutions for mesh and point-to-point networks
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints related to metering or power quality issues
- Perform standby/on-call duties as the first responder to customer outage or fluctuating power calls
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve customer issues and provide technical support
- Maintain documentation, records, and reports as required
- Utilize Burlington Hydro’s Customer Information System and meter data management systems to access, analyze, and update customer and metering data
- Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, contractors, and employees
- All other duties as assigned
- Certified Journeyperson Meter Technician under the MEARIE program or equivalent certification
- Electrical Engineering Technology diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution, or equivalent work experience
- Valid G Class Ontario driver’s licence with a clean abstract
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with employees, customers, and the public
- Physical fitness to safely perform work, including climbing, working at heights, working in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Willingness and ability to participate in regular emergency call-outs, on-call rotation, and work under emergency conditions, with the ability to arrive on-site within one hour of being called
- Commitment to safety, including participation in Rescue Drills, First Aid, and Health & Safety training
- Proficiency with MS Office and the ability to learn new software and systems
- Solid knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and best practices
- Reliable, energetic, and motivated with a proven safety and attendance record
