Under supervision, performs technical support for all automated equipment, telemetry, motor control systems, motor control centers, switchgear, and switchboards, in all the BPUB operational processes.
ESSENTIALJOBDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES (include the following)
Installs, configures, programs, integrates, troubleshoots, repairs, and/or replaces a broad range of electrical equipment, PLC components, process instrumentation, and motor control devices (VFDs, RVSS, across the line motor contactors).
Inspects and evaluates assigned equipment on a recommended maintenance schedule to ensure its efficient and safe operation; maintains maintenance records on equipment.
Interprets and understands wiring diagrams, blue prints schematics, instructions, and other technical documentation.
Installs, configures, programs, integrates, troubleshoots, repairs, and/or replaces all components within the SCADA telemetry to include: fiber transceivers, industrial network switches, wireless devices, radio antennas and its components, and any other electrical or electronic component within the telemetry system.
Responds to routine and emergency calls for service calls as required.
Works as scheduled including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Completes other job duties as assigned.
Senior Mechatronics Technician(in addition to duties listed above)
Coordinates the purchase of replacement components with the department supervisor.
Develops maintenance schedule based on manufacturer recommended best practices.
Lead Mechatronics Technician(in addition to all duties listed above)
Assists engineering teams in the development of specifications where instrumentation and control systems are required.
Manages the documentation of all equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, work instructions, and any other technical documentation.
Serves as the subject matter expert for all assigned projects and is responsible for the timely completion of all work.
SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITIES
The Lead Mechatronics Technician will be responsible for overseeing the activities assigned to the Mechatronics Technicians.
Knowledge important to perform the functions of the job include:
Knowledge of electrical theory, construction methods, materials, and tools, used in the electrical trade.
Knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade, including the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70 (NEC), the NPFA 70E, NFPA 79, and the NFPA 70B.
Knowledge of the electrical hazards (arc flash, arc blast, and electrical shock) involved in working around energized lines and equipment.
Knowledge of electrical switchgears, electrical switchboards, emergency generators, motor control centers, and other electrical supply equipment.
Knowledge of electric motors, motor control systems with VFD, RVSS, across the line magnetic starters; and motor protection devices to include overloads, relay protection relays, phase detectors and other components.
Knowledge of Rockwell Automation PLCs and HMI Factory Talk platform.
Knowledge of diagnostic equipment provided for circuit analysis and testing, including power and motor analyzers, insulation integrity testing equipment, process simulation equipment, and similar test equipment standard in the process control industry.
Knowledge in interpretation of P&ID symbols and standard practices as related to the process control & instrumentation industry, with emphasis in water/wastewater instrumentation.
Skills important to perform the functions of the job include:
Skills in the troubleshooting and configuration of motor control and protection equipment.
Skills using testing equipment standard in the process industry.
Skill in the installation, adjustment, and calibration of water/wastewater plant instruments and equipment.
Skill in the installation and adjustment of telemetry equipment and accessories.
Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
Strong skills in the reading and interpretation of blueprints, schematics, maintenance manuals, and assembly instructions.
Abilities important to perform the functions of the job include:
Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in the performance of tasks.
Ability to make mathematical computations in the development of control algorithms.
Associates Degree in Mechatronics Technology from an accredited technical school in the maintenance, installation and repair of automation systems, motor control systems, or electrical switchboard/switchgear systems is required.
An appropriate combination of education and relevant work experience may substitute for the educational requirement.
Two (2) additional years of relevant work experience are required.
Four (4) additional years of relevant work experience are required.
Requires a valid Texas Driver License or receipt of a valid Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Overall physical condition to work at floor level or in elevated places, including the ability to work on the platforms of bucket trucks while troubleshooting telemetry equipment top of structures at 60 plus feet above ground is required. Must be able to manipulate loads up to 50 lbs. Strenuous physical effort and continuous lifting and moving of heavy test equipment is required. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions and high voltage exposure. Must be able to work with a self-contained breathing apparatus weighing 45 lbs., or respirator. Must pass the annual fit test requirements for use of a self-contained breathing apparatus and/or respirator. Must be able to enter and perform duties in a confined space.
