SUMMARY:
Perform highly skilled work of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on rotating equipment, generators, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulic equipment, and other plant equipment; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting all mechanical malfunctions for Columbus Water Works. Plan, directs, and schedule preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance for all Mechanical Techs using CMMS work reporting software as well as to generate, assign, check, and close out work orders. Routinely coordinates with the SCADA and Electrical Supervisor and with Plant Superintendents to resolve technical matters, insure continuity of Operations while repairs are being made. Plan and supervise mechanical construction projects and ensure they are in accordance with the contract and all other applicable codes. Holds or is able to acquire a GAWP Mechanical Technologist III certification. Position will act as the Assistant Superintendent Mechanical in his absence. Perform other related duties as required or directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
•Direct and support 15 maintenance technicians in a diverse repair and maintenance environment and oversee the completion of tasks in a safe manner.
•First Line Supervisor for MMD department in maintaining the reliability and capacity of the plant equipment by troubleshooting and repairing mechanical problems in the most efficient manner.
•Conducts annual performance as well as midyear evaluations and reviews of employees.
•Respond to equipment failures and performs emergency repairs and is the first point of contact for internal customers’ routine mechanical maintenance issues.
•Delegates and organizes personnel for daily and emergency repairs.
•Conduct daily safety briefing of employees and making sure safety is followed according to CWW’s guidelines.
•Effectively interact with all CWW staff to improve overall maintenance methods and plant’s condition.
•Be the first point of contact for on-call Mechanical issues and provide any assistance needed after hours and during weekends and holidays.
•Lead and supervise cross-functional work groups to perform installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment operated and maintained by Columbus Water Works.
•Plan, supervise, and execute installation of new mechanical and rotating equipment of new construction projects and ensure they are installed in accordance with the current contract and all other applicable codes.
•Create scopes of work, job plans, and get competitive pricing for mechanical work done by outside contractors.
•Identify and research equipment and areas which can benefit from new technologies to improve efficiency, safety, downtime, labor hours, etc.
•Plan and schedule preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance for all Mechanical Techs using CMMS work reporting software and Mobile work reporting software as well as generate, assign, quality control, and close out work orders.
•Work with operations personnel to schedule and prioritize preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance as well as construction projects.
•Train and supervise junior personnel in advanced mechanical and maintenance practices.
•Initiate requisitions for equipment and parts necessary to accomplish the maintenance tasks assigned. Able to identify correct replacement of parts and cross reference obsolete components.
•Be cognizant of and follow all applicable safety regulations as established by Columbus Water Works, and enforces those regulations as required, including confined space entry regulations.
•Identify repetitive and catastrophic failures and perform root cause analysis for the failures of the mechanical equipment and systems.
•Develop and implement a vibration, oil analysis, and other best in class maintenance program to ensure reliable operation of plant equipment. Create and enter preventive and predictive work orders and job tasks into the CMMS.
•Expertly use laptop computer and various software programs to conduct time and attendance of employees, documentation of work orders, reporting and other office type work.
•Expertly perform oil analysis and to perform non-destructive testing of various motors, pumps, gearboxes, and other equipment as necessary to predict and prevent catastrophic failure of equipment used in CWW operations.
•Generate clear and concise reports using a personal computer and software to illustrate the problem areas of equipment tested using non-destructive methods.
•Coordinates daily with the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor and MMD Planner/Scheduler to determine the priority of repair and maintenance work orders; accounts for the expenditure of all resources used to complete work orders; determines the tests and troubleshooting to be performed and the extent of repairs to be made on inoperable equipment.
•Supervise, direct, and mentor all mechanical technicians in the department to ensure reliability of CWW’s assets.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED required. Technical School or Vocational School training in the mechanical or Industrial Maintenance field preferred. Specialized courses related to mechanical systems or military experience in lieu of is also preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience in plant maintenance is required or any combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must write routine reports and correspondence in the common technical language of trade. Must speak effectively to employees of this organization and to verbally communicate clearly and concisely. Must deal with the public in a calm, concise manner to resolve problems that may arise in the course of daily work.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must have ability to read and comprehend flowsheets, blueprints and other technical drawings.

The employee regularly works with and around chemicals to include chlorine and fluoride, associated tanks, piping and chemical feed systems commonly found in the water and wastewater industry.
