Job Description Mechanical Engineer Nextracker | San Rafael, CA, UNITED STATES Position Overview
- Responsible for design of parts and systems to increase the throughput and reliability of our construction machines
- Work with a cross-functional team to define requirements for machine improvements
- Develop concepts of various was of implementing a particular function, then downselect to a preferred implementation
- Design and fabricate prototypes, test, and refine; including working with internal machine shop and external vendors
- Design production parts
- Work with procurement to build production units
- Improve the reliability and maintainability of parts as field use reveals weaknesses
- Use design tools such as FEA, FMEA, and DFx to guide design decisions
- Create detailed CAD models and fabrication drawings (in SolidWorks)
- Use Arena as the PLM tool
- Excellent hand-on skills and sense required to assemble prototypes, and install protypes designs on machines, including large parts requiring use of a truck-mounted crane, telehandler, etc. Prototype machine building would comprise between 200 and 300 hours per year.
- Be a teammate to a wide range of individuals in varied situations; requires interacting with people in many areas of the company, including design engineers, field engineers, construction workers
- 6 weeks per year travel required, mostly in the US
- Field work will typically be on a utility scale solar site or at a local test yard, and requires the ability to lift objects of up to 25 pounds and occasionally climb on parts of a machine
- Field work requires ability to use common mechanic hand tools and power tools and construction machines (including machines of our own design)
- BSME required
- 2-5 years of hands-on engineering experience
- At least 500 hours of using SolidWorks professionally
- Have designed the model and fabrication drawings for at least 3 parts that have been manufactured in a normal machine shop
- Fluent in English
- Good people skills – communication and interpersonal
- Construction experience desirable

Pay is based on market location and may vary based on factors including experience, skills, education and other job-related reasons. The annual salary range for this position is
Pay Range (Applicable to California)$115,000.00 - $125000.00, dependent on level of experience.
