Reports To: Maintenance Manager
Location: Pasco (on-site; may support Walla Walla or Yakima as needed)
Shift: Monday – Friday, 1:00 PM – 10:00 PM (Swing Shift)
The Mechanic III is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on company vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations both in repair facilities and in the field. Working under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, this role supports both facility and field-based maintenance needs while assisting in compliance with DOT, FMCSA, WUTC, and OSHA standards, requiring strong technical expertise, independent problem-solving, and leadership in supporting junior mechanics and shop operations.
- Safely operate vehicles and hydraulic components to access service points.
- Perform and document preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) and annual inspections per schedules.
- Grease vehicles and equipment per established schedules.
- Change oil, fuel, transmission, hydraulic filters, and perform fluid services.
- Conduct brake, drum, clutch adjustments, and suspension checks.
- Maintain oil levels in CNG compressors and perform scheduled CNG inspections.
- Collect and submit oil samples as scheduled.
- Inspect shop vehicles weekly and complete DVIR-related tasks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Diagnose and repair complex issues with electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on equipment both in the field and in the shop.
- Perform DVIR repairs and certify work is completed safely and in compliance with DOT/FMCSA standards.
- Fabricate and replace hydraulic hoses, seals, and gaskets.
- Perform manual and automatic transmission service and repairs.
- Support rebuilds and major repair projects as assigned.
- Provide input on feasibility and materiality of repairs.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, WUTC, and L&I standards.
- Accurately complete repair orders, PM checklists, and inspection forms.
- Participate in facility safety audits (fire extinguishers, exit signs, oil containment, hazard prevention).
- Support shop software implementation and inventory system improvements.
- Work closely with the Maintenance Department Lead to prioritize repairs and PMs.
- Assist in mentoring junior mechanics and apprentices.
- Participate in daily huddles and safety meetings.
- Provide feedback on process improvements, equipment reliability, and training needs.
- Proven experience in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Strong knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, brake, and suspension systems.
- Familiarity with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, WUTC, and L&I compliance standards.
- Ability to diagnose using both diagnostic software and traditional troubleshooting methods.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service literature.
- CDL (preferred) or ability to obtain; clean driving record required.
- Strong computer skills for work order documentation and diagnostics.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members and drivers.
- Primarily swing shift (1:00 PM – 10:00 PM), Monday through Friday.
- On-site at Pasco facility, with potential assignments in Walla Walla or Yakima.
- Physical requirements include standing, bending, lifting, and exposure to shop and outdoor environments.
- Pay: $33.44 - $35.65 per hour DOE.
