This position includes travel to job site locations including out of state travel on mutual assistance, and provides maintenance, repair, and diagnostic services for all vehicles and equipment. Inspecting engine and mechanical /electrical components and diagnose issues accurately. Inspecting computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade if needed. Conducting routine maintenance daily work tasks aiming to keep all equipment serviced for functionality and longevity. Work is performed under the general direction of the Fleet Manager.
- Perform inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on utility vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct troubleshooting and problem-solving to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
- Execute minor fabrication tasks and perform basic welding when required.
- Maintain accurate service records, documentation, and work orders.
- Manage tools, parts, and equipment in an organized and efficient manner.
- Respond promptly to field service calls, ensuring minimal downtime for utility operations.
- Follow all safety procedures and comply with company, state, and federal regulations.
- Work independently in varying environments and weather conditions, demonstrating adaptability and versatility.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational certification in automotive, diesel, or equipment repair preferred.
- 3+ years of experience as a mechanic, preferably in utilities, construction, or fleet operations.- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL Class A or B required
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
- Experience/Certification in air brakes, DOT truck/trailer inspections, and hydraulics.
- ASE Certification would also be a plus.
- Strong technical abilities in automotive/utility equipment repair.
- High attention to detail with quality-driven work standards.
- Effective problem-solving ability to quickly diagnose and resolve issues.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in critical situations.
- Versatility to adapt to changing priorities, work sites, and equipment types.
- Basic welding knowledge for small-scale repairs and fabrication.
- Strong physical ability to lift, bend, and maneuver heavy equipment and tools safely.
- May involve working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must be open to extended times away from home as well as working holidays
- Field-based role with frequent travel between job sites.
