Job Overview
The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the flow of materials within the corporation, including planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of inventory, ensuring that the right materials are available at the right time to meet production needs while optimizing costs and minimizing waste. This position has responsibility for a team that supports purchasing, inventory control, shipping and receiving and materials storage.
- Analyze sales data from forecasts and customer demand and correlate with production plans to accurately predict future material needs.
- Manage inventory to monitor and control inventory levels to maintain optimal stock, identifying and addressing potential shortages or overstocking issues to meet production plans and sales forecasts.
- Responsible for the procurement (sourcing, negotiating, and buying) of goods, materials and services to meet the Company’s operational requirements.
- Ensure incoming materials meet quality standards and implement procedures to monitor quality throughout the supply chain.
- Oversee the storage and handling of materials at all locations, ensuring proper organization and inventory accuracy.
- Leads, plans and supervises the daily activities of employees within the department.
- Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers to facilitate decision-making and planning that may affect the supply and demand of needed products and materials.
- Identify and implement strategies to streamline material flow, reduce lead times, and optimize the overall supply chain.
- Manage risks that could prevent the organization from meeting customer demands.
- Identify opportunities to reduce material costs through negotiation, process improvements, logistics opportunities and vendor optimization.
- Generate reports on inventory levels, supplier performance, and cost analysis to inform decision-making.
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field, with a certification in Production and Inventory Management or equivalent preferred; five (5) years in Supply Chain Management and or Logistics related work with at least 2 years’ experience in Management; or an equivalent combination of related education, training and relevant experience that will satisfy the education and experience requirements.
Candidates must possess strong leadership and motivation skills to guide team members in making consistent progress in training goals. Proficiency using MS Office Suite (Access, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and Word) and manufacturing software (i.e. ERP systems). Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, both written and orally, the ability to work with others to maintain a positive work environment. Ability to handle complex information with discretion and maintain the confidentiality of all company information. Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
The ability to travel to other company locations is required. This is not a remote position; the qualified candidate must work from the Michigan facility.
