The material handler's primary responsibility is to manage the flow of materials in a warehouse, distribution center, or manufacturing facility. This involves a range of tasks, including:
- Receiving and Storing: Unloading incoming shipments, checking them for accuracy and quality, and storing them in designated areas.
- Inventory Management: Maintaining accurate inventory records, performing cycle counts, and tracking stock levels.
- Order Fulfillment: Pulling, packing, and preparing orders for shipment.
- Loading and Transport: Loading outgoing trucks and moving materials between different areas using equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Safety and Organization: Adhering to all safety guidelines, performing regular maintenance on equipment, and keeping the workspace clean and organized.
- Work with and assist crew members in all matters relating to material and yard organization and material acquisition.
- Safety oversight of all yard activity and personnel
- Collect invoices and packing slips and get them to the project manager.
- Operate various class forklifts.
- Operate trucks and ATVs.
- Load and unload trucks with material, wire/cable, and all types of utility poles
- Sort and organize material and poles in yards.
- Inspect the condition of the material, wire/cable, and all types of utility poles.
- Make minor repairs.
- Tagging
- Kitting, packaging, and staging for contractors.
- Deliveries to contactors
- Building material cribbing
- Pick up trash and clean the yards, equipment, and associated outbuildings.
Ability to lift heavy items, stand/walk for long periods, and have the physical stamina for repetitive tasks.
- Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
- Basic math and computer skills for inventory management.
- Good communication skills.
A high school diploma or GED is required
