What you’ll do
The Manager, Planning and Scheduling is responsible for the planning, execution, development, monitoring and reporting on the schedule for delivery of projects and ensures the achievement of deadlines and budgets. This includes coordinating project resource acquisition (internally or externally) and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. This position also works in conjunction with, and supports, project stakeholders to define the project objectives and oversee quality control throughout the project life cycle.
- Oversees all project planning and execution including capital and connection work
- Supports or leads the development of project scope, goals, resource requirements and deliverables that align with business objectives in collaboration with senior management and project stakeholders
- Communicates project expectations, project status and progress to team members and stakeholders on a timely basis
- Prepares, monitors and updates CPM logic diagrams and master schedules for Capital Projects and Customer Connections
- Prepares resource loaded schedules and manpower histograms for individual capital and customer connections projects
- Establishes and continually manages project expectations, timelines and resources with team members and liaise with stakeholders per the project plan
- Prepares and analyzes project status reports to identify and troubleshoot problem areas
- Conducts project postmortems and develops recommendations to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements as well as evaluate the estimate for accuracy
- Shares best practice project management techniques and tools for project planning, execution, management, communication and the establishment and tracking of key performance metrics
- Works with operating project leads to establish the overall success criteria for the project, including time, budget, technical and performance parameters
- Delegates project tasks and responsibilities to appropriate team members
- Develops and maintains the project controls manual, including integrated systems and processes for project data collection, storage and reporting
- Measures the performance of projects to ensure continual improvement of process maps, procedures, work instructions and templates
- Ensures that objectives are met and those projects are delivered within time and cost targets and to the appropriate quality standards
- Ensures methodology, project governance, processes and systems to be utilized throughout projects
- Manages the flow of project information between departments through regular meetings and written communications
- Provides overall people leadership and direction through coaching, development, performance management and resource planning
- Provides input to annual business plans and budgets and manages resources accordingly
- Researches, recommends and implements new or enhanced policies, procedures and processes to improve operational effectiveness
- Ensures compliance with legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
- Performs other duties as assigned
Who you are
Education & Specialized Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering, Business administration, Technology or recognized equivalent
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification as asset
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- Proficient in the use of project management software – experience in Oracle Primavera an asset
- Proven ability to prepare CPM logic diagrams and perform critical path analysis
- 5 years planning and scheduling experience in a production or similar environment
- Experience in the preparation, implementation and maintenance of Master Schedules that align with management reporting requirements
- Previous experience with an ERP system is highly desired
- Experience in a unionized utility environment an asset
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products
- Strong ability to lead change and engage, develop and motivate teams
- Strong planning skills, with the ability to assess the impact of decisions
- Excellent written and presentation skills, with the ability to organize and convey information in a compelling way
- Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
- Strong conflict negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and resolve difficult situations
- Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license
