A day in the life of a Package Engineering Manager involves overseeing a multi-site team of engineers and designers for rotating equipment projects. This role requires managing the competency of the team, annual department budgets, and supporting manufacturing operations. The Package Engineering Manager ensures that the existing team is setup for success on their projects and proactively engages with educational universities to maintain a funnel of future talent.
- Lead and manage a dynamic multi-site team of engineers and designers specializing in mechanical and systems technical scope for innovative packaged rotating equipment projects, including electric motor-driven compressor trains and gas turbine-compressors.
- Develop and oversee a robust competency management program to enhance the skills and expertise of the engineering and design team.
- Collaborate with various engineering disciplines to optimize capacity and effectively meet evolving business needs.
- Provide essential support to manufacturing operations by creating work instructions and managing non-conformance issues during equipment assembly.
- Strategically set and manage departmental annual budgets, including expenses, absorption, and rates, to ensure financial efficiency.
- Mentor and nurture current team members while building a pipeline of future talent to drive continued success and innovation.
- Minimum B.S. in an engineering-related field; M.S. is a plus.
- Previous team lead or management experience required.
- 8+years of Mechanical Engineering industry experience; advanced degree may substitute for work experience. Those with more experience may be considered for a more senior level.- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Experience directing a multi-site team of engineers and designers across multiple countries.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Engineering/PLM software (NX, COMOS, Jira, SAP); rotating equipment experience preferred.
