The Application Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring the highest level of technical and commercial support for customers and channel partners by optimizing the Application Engineering Team to maximum levels of responsiveness as well as high levels of technical and commercial support.
The primary location of the role will be Dayton, OH.
An Application Engineering Manager is proficient in these areas:
- Can properly and accurately execute the proficiency areas of an Application Engineer and consistently excels in all aspects of the job.
- Supervises the Application Engineering Department, including direct supervision of the Application Engineers.
- Manages the workload within the AE department to ensure projects are quoted accurately and timely with optimum design and application and within NOV policies.
- Sets priorities for Application Engineers and ensures requests from customers and representatives are promptly addressed.
- Sets goals for the Application Engineers to advance proficiency and grow them personally and professionally and reviews the AE against those goals.
- Handles large or complex projects as needed.
- Participate in strategy and operational development as a member of the executive team to grow company’s business and provide Application Engineering support necessary to implement company strategy.
- Be a relentless voice of the customer to the rest of the organization to ensure we put the customer and representative first.
- Hire and Train new AE’s as needed.
- Assure designs within the department are optimized for performance and cost and provide cost estimates to Sales Manager and RSM’s as required to maximize order potential.
- Provide guidance to Application Engineers on special and custom designs and coordinate projects requiring Engineering, Purchasing, and Manufacturing assistance to properly design, cost, and price the project to our customer.
- Assist Director of Sales in Order Forecasting for associated products utilizing CRM system and other sales tools.
- Assist with marketing projects necessary to maintain a competitive product offering. These can include price rationalization, sales tools updates, generation of product literature, etc.
- Present technical trainings and presentations to representatives and customers. Attend customer meetings as appropriate with the representative and the Regional Sales Manager to provide technical support
- Engineering Degree or experience working on technical inside sales.
- 5+ years’ experience in rotating equipment selection for process industries - 5+ years’ experience in sales or similar commercial role, with an Engineering Degree. - 10+ years’ experience in technical inside sales or similar role with no degree.- Effective verbal and written communication skills
