Manager, Environmental & Community Relations Join a team dedicated to responsible mining, environmental excellence, and community engagement.

About the Role

As the Manager, Environmental & Community Relations, you’ll take on a leadership role that blends environmental stewardship, community engagement, and partnership building. Reporting to the General Manager, you will develop and execute strategies that ensure the Island Gold District meets and exceeds environmental standards, maintains strong ties with local communities and First Nations, and upholds Alamos’ commitment to sustainable, responsible mining.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental Leadership & Compliance

- Lead Site Compliance: Develop and manage environmental compliance plans, including regulatory reporting, monitoring programs, and reclamation strategies to ensure responsible mining operations.

- Implement Environmental Systems: Oversee environmental systems, procedures, and policies to meet regulatory standards, collaborating with various departments to ensure alignment.

- Permitting and Approvals: Provide guidance on necessary approvals and requirements, managing permitting processes for new and existing properties and maintaining compliance with Provincial and Federal regulations.

- Closure & Reclamation Planning: Manage mine closure plans, ensure alignment with environmental strategy, oversee sampling programs, and work closely with consultants for sustainable site closure.

- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and oversee emergency response plans for environmental incidents, collaborating with teams to ensure preparedness.

Community Relations & Engagement

- Build Community Relationships: Develop and lead community engagement and development strategies for the Island Gold District, maintaining open communication with local stakeholders, community members, and government representatives.

- Program Implementation: Implement programs that positively impact community health, education, business development, and infrastructure, supporting sustainable regional growth.

- Stakeholder Engagement: Foster relationships with local businesses, community groups, media, and other external organizations, serving as the face of Island Gold District in community forums and public events.

- Strategic Communications: Work with senior management to identify communication opportunities, preparing presentations and representing Island Gold in public settings to build trust and transparency.

Indigenous Relations

- Lead Indigenous Engagement: Develop sustainable relationships with key Indigenous communities, ensuring fulfillment of Benefit Agreement commitments and building opportunities for economic partnerships.

- Cultural Support: Promote Indigenous cultural learning and understanding within the team, supporting collaboration and ongoing dialogue with First Nations partners.

- Environment Committees: Lead engagement through formal Environment Committees, working with Indigenous partners on environmental issues, permitting, and community support.

Strategic Sustainability & Safety Leadership

- Implement Sustainability Standards: Lead the implementation of Alamos’ Sustainability Performance Management Framework at the district level, with a focus on environmental and community-related standards.

- Champion Safety and Compliance: Drive a safety-first culture within the Environmental and Community Relations team, ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, and social responsibility standards.

- Performance Monitoring: Collaborate with senior management to assess performance against corporate sustainability standards, identifying areas for improvement and developing action plans to address gaps.

Qualifications and Skills

- Education: Degree or Diploma in Environmental Science, Corporate Social Responsibility, or a related field.

- Experience: 8-10 years of experience in environmental management, community relations, and/or sustainability, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Mining industry experience is highly preferred.

- Technical Skills: In-depth understanding of Provincial and Federal regulations related to environmental impact, permitting, and mining. Familiarity with environmental and closure planning processes.

- Communication & Leadership: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust, manage teams, and foster collaborative relationships across internal and external stakeholders.

- Problem Solving & Decision-Making: Proven ability to make sound decisions, solve problems independently, and lead with integrity.

- Language Skills: Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
