JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the water treatment plant and industrial division mechanical equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
•Maintain and repair machines and equipment used to process and distribute water for human consumption and industrial use.
•Manage capital improvement projects as assigned.
•Document all work being performed through the Authority’s Asset Management System (Cartegraph).
•Supervise and inspect contractors performing work on-site.
•Operate hand and power tools, as well as some heavy equipment.
•Dismantle and repair electric motors, pumps, valves, chlorinators, air movers, inductors, and backflow preventers.
•Inspect machines and equipment to detect malfunctions.
•Perform preventive maintenance activities and repair or replace parts as needed.
•Repair plumbing; insulate pipes.
•Weld and fabricate parts.
•Maintain tool inventory, order parts, and supplies as needed.
•Contribute to a safe work environment by following the Authority’s safety rules, guidelines, and procedures.
•Ensure all external customers, vendors, contractors, government regulators & members of the public relationships are maintained on a professional and productive basis.
•Interact professionally with organization team members and other departments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Minimum of 1 year of experience in the basic principles relevant to the duties of the position.
•Knowledge of water treatment and distribution systems.
•Knowledge of the practices and principles of pipe fitting.
•Welding NCCER certification preferred.
•Knowledge of the installation and maintenance of various mechanical systems.
•Skill in the diagnosis and repair of various mechanical components and systems.
•Skill in the operation of hand and power tools and some heavy equipment.
•Skill in oral and written communication.
•Ability to analyze problems and implement solutions.
•Intermediate level of understanding & competency in utilizing a wide variety of software & computer applications.
•High School Diploma/GED required.
•Valid Texas Driver’s License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
•The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
•The work is typically performed in a water treatment plant or in a remote location, outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Subject to 24-7-365 call out & serve on hurricane crew.
