Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor and Mechanic A
Responsible for performing a wide variety of mechanical and structural maintenance on Hydro, Steam and Gas power plants and structures to include dams and grounds.
- Under direct supervision receives maintenance assignment. Periodically performs or assists Maintenance Mechanic A performing a variety of duties including maintenance or water turbines by closing head gates, draining water from water turbine room and disassembling-reassembling water turbine. Visually inspects turbine blades, etc., for pitting or cavitation; clean and fill cavities by laying on welds. Grind and sand weld to produce smooth finish, replace bushings, lubricate, check linkage and repair or replace defective parts.
- Maintains gas and steam turbine plant by repairing or replacing such parts or assemblies as fans, pumps, motors, etc. Repairs and replaces defective piping; i.e., steam, water, lubrication, etc.,. Performing such duties as removing insulation, disassembling, and cutting, threading and reassembling or welding. Reinsulates pipes as necessary.
- As required repairs steam boiler by removing metal skin, cutting to size and replacing skin and insulation, removes boiler tubing by cutting to lengths, reinstalling and welding. Cleans out boiler area.
- Utilizes arc and acetylene welding to weld in such positions as overhead, vertical, horizontal or flat. Cuts out parts.
- Uses a variety of hand and power tools such as grinders, sanders, drills, etc.
- Operates sandblaster to remove old paint and rust, spray or brush paints a variety of equipment such as power plant structure, spillway structure, dam structure and transformer, etc.
- Is responsible for operating front-end loader to load coal from stockpile to day bunker. Uses front-end loader to keep stockpile packed and level.
- Is responsible for operating tractor to maintain earth dams, and grounds.
- Is responsible for operating for lift to handle and move equipment and materials.
- Maintains handling equipment by checking fluid levels, changes oil and/or greases as required.
- Is required to work at substantial heights on power plant structure and dam spillways. Works off lake barge.
- Utilizing skills listed above may be required to construct or assemble new facilities or alter existing facilities.
- Periodically attends training sessions pertaining to safety, first aid, CPR and technical subjects.
- Responsible for the proper use and care of tools and equipment.
- Builds forms and pours and finishes concrete to construct equipment pads, walls, walkways, etc.
- Operates lawn mower and/or tractor to cut grass
- As a public employee is responsible for maintaining good relations with the public served.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools, drill press or lathe.
- Work at substantial heights or off lake barge.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Lifting objects in excess of 100 lbs. with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing 50 lbs. or more. Climbing. Stooping. Kneeling. Crouching. Crawling. Reaching. Handling. Fingering. Feeling. Seeing. Must be able to operate all department equipment and automotive equipment.

MATH SKILLS Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to: add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Practical application of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Must have developed language skills to the point to be able to: read and understand instructions, rules, etc.
Write sentences, using cursive style, proper end punctuation and employing adjectives and adverbs.
Speak clearly and distinctly with appropriate pauses, emphasis and correct pronunciation.
