The ceramic material machinist is responsible for executing all aspects of machining to meet the aerospace specification dimensions and physical properties. This role will run a manual grinder and CNC vertical mill to machine the ceramic blank. Upon completion of machining and traceability marking of the finished part, critical measurements must be taken to prove effectiveness to meet specification and documentation must be filed. It is integral this person executes per outlined work procedures and provides input for procedure revisions. Contamination avoidance is required to avoid chemical cross-contamination of the finished aerospace component. Due to brittle nature of the ceramic material, careful handling of these components is required.
The role will provide recommendations for continuous improvement and work cooperatively with management and engineering to experiment, prove/disprove, and implement changes per aerospace protocols. Operator must complete in-house training and receive authorization to operate equipment after formal training from experienced staff.
Documentation must be transferred for traceability and quality aspects to meet required standards. Measurement integrity is critical for workmanship evidence and process capability/consistency calculations. Some training of future machinists due to process expansion may be requested.
· Execute operations as advised to maintain ISO9001 and AS13100 (required)
· Execute per internal and customer quality specifications and internal procedures (required)
· Operate, clean, and identify issues with Kellenberger 600U cylindrical grinder and HAAS TM3P vertical mill
· Modify CNC machine code as outlined in work procedures
· Identify needs and provide suggestions for continuous improvement
· Use quality tools for measurement, dial and/or digital calipers and height gages
· Additional controls and capability assessments are to be accommodated
· Develop facility strategy to drive statistical process control in operations where possible
· Work with engineers and department managers to generate appropriate specifications, control plans, PFMEAs, etc to minimize process waste and yield losses
· Participate in safety improvements and consistently demonstrate safe working protocols
· Train on day shift operations; transition to 2nd shift operations for full production (2:30-10:30PM) upon conclusion of training
· Demonstrate vocational competency upon completion of training
