Job Description: Front End Loader Operator (980 Loader) – High Production Rock Quarry
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Front End Loader Operator to operate a Caterpillar 980 Loader (or similar) in a high-production rock quarry environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for efficiently and safely loading materials quickly and accurately, maintaining equipment, and supporting quarry operations to meet production goals. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Operate 980 Loader: Safely and efficiently operate a Caterpillar 980 Front End Loader to move, load, and stockpile materials such as blasted rock, gravel, and aggregates in a high-production quarry setting.
- Material Handling: Load haul trucks, feed crushers, and manage stockpiles to ensure continuous production and meet quality standards.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform pre- and post-shift inspections of the loader, including checking fluid levels, tire conditions, and mechanical components. Report any maintenance issues promptly to the supervisor.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) regulations, company policies, and site-specific safety standards. Wear appropriate PPE at all times.
- Production Goals: Work collaboratively with the quarry team to meet daily production targets while maintaining efficiency and minimizing downtime.
- Site Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized work area, including clearing debris from loading zones and ensuring safe access for other equipment and personnel.
- Communication: Coordinate with haul truck drivers, crusher operators, and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and address operational challenges.
- Record Keeping: Document daily activities, including production totals, equipment issues, and safety observations, as required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience operating a front end loader (Caterpillar 980 or equivalent) in a quarry, mining, or similar heavy industrial environment. Experience loading double bottom dump trailers is required. Must be capable of load 4000 tons + of material accurately in a 9 hour shift.
- Equipment Knowledge: Proficiency in operating and maintaining heavy machinery, with specific experience using a 980 Loader or similar equipment.
- Safety Training: Valid MSHA certification (Part 46 or Part 48) preferred; willingness to complete MSHA training if not already certified.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Technical Skills: Basic understanding of quarry operations, including material specifications and production processes.
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills to coordinate with team members and report issues effectively.
- Work Ethic: Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license; heavy equipment operator certification is a plus.
- Work is performed outdoors in a quarry environment with exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- Must be comfortable working near heavy machinery, including haul trucks, crushers, and conveyors.
- Shift work may include early mornings, evenings, or weekends, depending on production needs.
