The Lineman shall adhere to safety and specification requirements while assisting, learning, and performing the construction, maintenance, or repair of the Cooperative’s electric distribution system to ensure the Cooperative’s Members an adequate and reliable supply of electric energy.
Essential Job Responsibilities/Duties:
•Obtains directions and assignments from assigned supervisor and cooperates with them in performing the tasks assigned.
•Conducts all duties required for construction, maintenance, or repair of either energized or de- energized overhead and underground distribution plant.
•Complies with the proper construction safety measures and work methods.
•Responds to outage and voltage trouble calls, determines and corrects the problem.
•Learns and maintains a working knowledge of RUS specifications, the National Electric Safety code and mapping system.
•Complies with all traffic laws, rules and regulations while operating a Cooperative vehicle.
•Ensures proper care and use of Cooperative vehicles, equipment and tools. Recommends any necessary repairs or replacements to Operations Manager.
•Assist with patrolling, documenting and repair of the Cooperative’s lines to meet RUS guidelines.
•Promotes and presents a positive professional image when performing his/her duties.
•Assists with the day-to-day training, development and evaluation of apprentice linemen. Assists in on-the-job training as necessary.
•Attend monthly safety meetings.
•Attend training and/or courses relating to area of work (overnight stay may be required).
•Learns and maintains a working knowledge of the Cooperative department policies and procedures.
•Assist with duties of groundman, equipment operator and/or lead lineman.
•Complete necessary paperwork with legible handwriting and proper grammar.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Abilities & Skills:
•Ability to learn and understand the principles involved and proper methods for overhead and underground distribution.
•Must have a thorough understanding of the principles involved and the proper methods for the installation and maintenance of the following is required: poles, line hardware and equipment, overhead conductors and live line maintenance, tools and equipment transformers, OCR’s, regulators and capacitors, metering, and troubleshooting outages.
•Must be able to climb poles and work at high elevations.
•Must be able to work independently as well as a team player.
•Must have the ability to multitask, work under pressure and meet required deadlines.
Position Qualifications:
•High school Diploma or equivalent.
•Electrical Distribution Systems degree preferred.
•Must meet all qualifications and maintain the required class CDL.
•Must be CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain certification within 60 days following employment.
Journeyman card OR the successful completion of an Electrical Distribution Systems program. (If currently enrolled in an Apprenticeship program, please specify what year).*
