Atlantic Fabricating Company, a women-owned metal fabrication and machining business in East Granby, CT, is seeking an experienced Lead Welder / Fabricator to oversee the daily operations of our welding department. This role is critical to maintaining high-quality standards in fabrication and welding, ensuring projects are completed accurately, safely, and on time.
The Lead Welder / Fabricator is responsible for fitting, tacking, welding, and assembling components ranging from small parts to large welded structures. Candidates must have strong proficiency in MIG and TIG welding, blueprint reading, layout, and fabrication processes. This role serves as the technical lead on the shop floor, interpreting complex drawings and weld symbols, and resolving fabrication challenges as they arise.
In addition to hands-on work, the Lead Welder / Fabricator manages job flow within the department, coordinates with the Operations Manager to prioritize workload, and ensures effective use of resources. The ideal candidate will take initiative in mentoring junior fabricators, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and supporting continuous improvement across the department.
This role also includes helping drive adoption of the Fulcrum ERP system in the welding department. The Lead Welder / Fabricator will support workflow tracking, time management, and production visibility using the platform, contributing to better operational efficiency.
Experience working with a range of materials, including stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum, is essential. Familiarity with AWS D1.1 and D1.6 codes is required. As Atlantic expands its capabilities in power plant and pressure vessel work, this role will also support new welding certifications, including ASME B31.1 and B31.3, working closely with quality and operations to align shop practices with evolving standards.
