We’re seeking a Lead P&C Field Engineer
to oversee testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities for transmission and distribution protection systems across customer facilities. You’ll serve as a senior technical expert and project lead, working hands-on with relays, control systems, and pilot channel equipment while guiding junior team members through successful field execution.
What You’ll Do
- Perform advanced testing of protection and control relays (electromechanical, solid state, and microprocessor)
- Verify SCADA metering, trip/alarm functions, and current/voltage inputs
- Commission power equipment and control systems, including pilot wire, transfer trip, fiber, and line tuning devices
- Diagnose and resolve issues in relaying and communications equipment in both new and legacy substations
- Provide technical leadership, supporting other engineers and technicians in the field
- Interpret complex schematics, test procedures, and utility specifications
- Schedule and execute projects efficiently, and via RMS Energy and client safety standards
- Engage with clients and internal teams to maintain project alignment and clear communication
- Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas- 10+ years of direct experience in commissioning and relay testing - 5+ years leading P&C project execution, relay settings coordination, and substation integration
- Demonstrated expertise in SCADA systems, fault/SER analysis, and integration automation
- Extensive knowledge of 3-phase power systems, protection schemes, and test software
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and test documentation tools
- Skilled in interpreting electrical diagrams and schematics
- Self-starter with the ability to manage competing deadlines and team support needs
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to lead field operations professionally
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
- Must pass a background and drug screening check
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Willingness to travel at least 70% of the time with periodic overnight stays
- Flexible availability for extended hours, weekends, holidays, and seasonal demand periods
- Experience with RMS Energy’s P&C standards, testing processes, or training programs
- Experience with Power DB or similar electronic test documentation systems
- TWIC card eligibility for access to secure facilities
