We’re seeking a Lead P&C Field Technician
to guide field teams during the testing and commissioning of advanced substation systems. This role combines hands-on technical leadership, deep expertise in protection and control schemes, and a commitment to safety and quality across complex energy projects.
What You’ll Do
- Lead field crews in the testing, maintenance, and commissioning of substation protection and control systems
- Oversee testing of protection relays, including calibration, SCADA metering validation, and alarm functionality
- Troubleshoot and repair substation relaying and control equipment with minimal supervision
- Interpret wiring schematics and technical drawings to guide accurate fieldwork
- Lead commissioning of substations, including microprocessor relays, pilot channel equipment, and SCADA components
- Conduct site walks, wiring reviews, and commissioning evaluations for relay and switchgear upgrade projects
- Operate testing equipment and meters with precision and proficiency
- Maintain rigorous documentation of all testing, maintenance, and repair activities
- Enforce safety standards across all field activities and uphold company and industry compliance protocols
- Mentor junior technicians and engineers to strengthen technical depth and team performance
- Support engineering design projects through technical insight and field validation
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards, including PPE use and working at heights- 10+ years of experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, and control scheme testing - 5+ years of leadership experience in project execution, system integration, and relay settings coordination
- Expertise in substation design, SCADA/Fault Data/SER systems, and automation equipment installation
- Strong knowledge of three-phase power systems and testing software/equipment
- Ability to interpret writing and elementary diagrams
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- High school diploma or GED
- Able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening
- Willing and able to travel 75% of the time with occasional overnight stays
- Must complete annual safety training (may require out-of-state travel)
- Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in electrical technology, power systems, or mechanical engineering
- Hands-on experience with microprocessor-based relays and pilot channel systems
- Field leadership on multi-site utility or industrial power projects
- Experience using Power DB or similar test documentation software
- OSHA 30 or other advanced safety certifications
