Provides senior expertise and assurance for Dynamic Positioning (DP) operations, DP technical systems, and DP assurance across the fleet. Ensures safe, reliable, and compliant DP performance through operational support, technical oversight, and structured assurance programs. Supports the company’s Management System (VMS), and works closely with Operations, Engineering, Capital Projects, Technical Support, Class, and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer).
Dynamic Positioning – Operational & Technical Assurance
- Provides expert guidance and input on DP operations, power management, protections coordination, watchkeeping standards, ASOG (Activity Specific Operating Guidelines) / CAMO (Critical Activity Mode) / WSOC (Well Specific Operating Criteria), and operational readiness.
- Leads and support DP incident reviews, operational assessments, and improvement actions.
- Contributes technical input for tenders, DP upgrades, and DP modification projects.
- Oversees DP FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) reviews, annual/5-year proving trials, and acceptance testing.
- Reviews system changes, software updates, and power-management adjustments to ensure compliance with Class, IMO (International Maritime Organization), IMCA (International Marine and Contractors Association), MTS ( Marine Technology Society ) and internal standards.
- Serves as company representative in the MTS, and IMCA.
- Acts as liaison between Operations, Engineering, Capital Projects, Technical Support, and Marine Support to ensure integrated decisions and DP assurance/reliability.
- Provides onboard and remote coaching for DP operators, engineers, and marine personnel.
- Provides shoreside coaching for cross-functional departments and personnel.
- Participates in incident investigations, support effective root-cause identification and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) identification.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical or system design preferred), or equivalent experience.
- Ten (10) years’ experience with DP-classed vessels; offshore drilling experience preferred.
- Strong operational and technical knowledge of DP systems, preferred Kongsberg.
- ISM/ISPS auditor certification preferred.
- Ability to travel offshore for audits, training, DP trials, and investigations.
- Expertise in DP operations, redundancy testing, system configuration, and fault diagnosis.
- Understanding of high-voltage distribution, protection coordination, load management, and marine electrical standards.
- Working knowledge of marine operations, vessel handling principles, environmental limits, and risk assessment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across cultures and disciplines.
- Strong communication, coaching, analysis, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to lead and influence others in a positive and productive manner.
- Ability to maintain and handle confidential documentation and information.
- Physically capable of being transported to an offshore rig by boat or helicopter.
