Your Impact

The Lead, Hygiene and Health is a senior health and safety professional responsible for leading the development, implementation, and oversight of integrated health programs across the site. This role provides strategic and operational leadership in occupational hygiene, return to work (disability management), health promotion and on-site medical services, ensuring regulatory compliance, operational effectiveness, and employee well-being.

The Lead acts as the lead health authority on site and is accountable for ensuring that hygiene and health risks are identified, assessed, and managed proactively. This includes direct engagement with internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and health and safety committees. The role also provides coverage leadership for the Emergency Response Team and Safety Team and may act on behalf of the Manager, Health, Safety and Security during absences.

Key Work Activities

- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive site health strategies encompassing occupational hygiene, return to work programs (disability management), health promotion and occupational health services in alignment with corporate standards and legislative requirements.

- Oversee the effective functioning of the site medical clinic, ensuring the delivery of acute medical care, occupational health surveillance, fitness-for-work evaluations, and health promotion programs.

- Provide leadership and technical guidance to a multidisciplinary health team, including industrial hygiene advisors, occupational health nurses, and return to work professionals.

- Direct the design and execution of workplace exposure monitoring programs; oversee the analysis of sampling data and the implementation of engineering or administrative controls. At times, take a on practitioner duties to ensure continuity of sampling campaigns.

- Ensure return to work processes support timely, safe, and sustainable employee reintegration; collaborate with human resources, operations, and medical providers to support accommodations and resolution of complex cases.

- Conduct and/or support investigations into occupational illnesses, health-related work refusals, and complex exposure scenarios, ensuring comprehensive documentation and corrective action.

- Serve as a site lead for external health and hygiene audits, inspections, and regulatory engagement; ensure programs are audit-ready and aligned with applicable legislation and corporate expectations.

- Monitor and analyze key health indicators and performance metrics; prepare reports and briefings for senior leadership, internal committees, and regulatory authorities.

- Provide coverage leadership during critical events or emergent situations as the overall health and safety coordinator.

- Provide leadership oversight for the Safety and Emergency response role as required.

- Provide acting coverage for the Manager, Health, Safety and Security when required, including participation in site-level leadership discussions, cross-functional coordination, and incident response planning.

- Foster a strong health and safety culture through education, mentorship, and integration of health considerations into operational planning.


Problem Solving Ability

- Address complex occupational health issues involving intersecting clinical, regulatory, operational, and legal factors by applying evidence-based and multidisciplinary approaches.

- Exercise sound judgment in high-pressure situations, including emergency events, potential disease outbreaks, or exposure incidents with uncertain health outcomes.

- Resolve conflicts related to return to work accommodations, exposure control strategies, or medical restrictions by collaborating with stakeholders and applying policy, precedent, and discretion.

- Anticipate and respond to emerging workplace health risks by continuously assessing site conditions, health data trends, and changes in workforce demographics or regulations.

- Synthesize information from occupational hygiene monitoring, medical surveillance, and return to work trends to proactively inform decision-making and continuous improvement.


Technical Skills

- Expertise in occupational hygiene practices including air sampling, noise monitoring, exposure data interpretation, and implementation of exposure controls.

- Good understanding of return to work process, modified work planning, and related disability case management processes, including knowledge of relevant human rights and employment legislation.

- Proficiency in managing medical surveillance programs, clinical reporting requirements, and compliance with occupational health regulations.

- Skilled in preparing and reviewing technical documents such as exposure reports, health risk assessments, program audits, and strategic plans.

- Familiarity with occupational health and safety software, exposure data systems, electronic medical records (EMRs), and case management platforms.

- Familiarity with emergency response protocols, triage coordination, and site-wide health incident response procedures.


Prerequisites For Your Success in the Role

- University degree in Occupational Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Nursing, or a related health discipline; a Master’s degree is considered an asset.

- Professional designations such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH), Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), Registered Nurse (RN), or equivalent level of third party designations are strongly preferred.

- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in health and hygiene, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership or coordination role.

- Strong working knowledge of applicable legislation, including provincial occupational health and safety laws, workers’ compensation regulations, human rights obligations, and public health directives.

- Familiarity with industrial processes, particularly in mining, construction, or other high-risk environments, is highly desirable.

- Experience working in a remote physical working environment is desired.


Your Work Environment

- Location: Red Chris Mine (fly-in/fly-out role)

- Rotation: The role is a 15 days on 13 days off rotational schedule, and crosses over with Lead of Safety and Emergency Services.

- Conditions: Onsite in a remote, industrial mining environment

- Requirements: Must pass pre-employment medical, drug & alcohol test, and comply with PPE and safety protocols

- Other Details: This role requires flexibility and readiness to respond to emergencies and critical site events during rotation or on an as-needed basis. Occasional international travel may be required for training, audits, or corporate meetings. The ideal candidate will bring not only technical expertise in health and hygiene, but also practical experience in safety and emergency management.

We are now recruiting for the position of Lead, Hygiene & Health, offering a competitive annual salary of

CAD $126,200–$168,300,

plus a 25% short-term incentive. Final compensation will be based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and internal equity considerations.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$126,200-168,300 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
