Position Summary
The Lead Commercial Driver will oversee the safe, efficient daily collection of solid waste and recyclables on specified routes. This role requires leading a team of drivers while ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company policies. The Lead Commercial Driver will support Route Supervisors, train new drivers, and assist with ensuring operational success in the field.
Key Responsibilities
•Leadership: Lead a team of drivers to ensure the safe, efficient collection of solid waste and recyclables.
•Safety & Compliance: Follow and enforce DOT regulations, safety standards, and company procedures to ensure the safety of all operations.
•Training: Train new drivers and cross-train current drivers on alternate routes.
•Customer Service: Interact professionally with customers and address their concerns promptly and courteously.
•Route Management: Assist Route Supervisors in route planning, daily task delegation, and operational support.
•Team Support: Work closely with dispatch, supervisors, and fellow drivers to maintain communication and solve problems on the go.
•Special Projects: Assist with community events, cleanup projects, and other MVD department needs as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Education: High school diploma or GED.
•Experience: At least 4 years of experience operating a Class A or Class B vehicle.
•Licensing: Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement.
•Extensive knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
•Ability to communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, and the team.
•Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
•Ability to read maps and use navigational devices.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
•Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
•Occasional to frequent industrial lifting (up to waist-high).
•Gripping and moving at a brisk pace.
•Ability to bend, lift, and perform tasks involving repetitive motions.
