Water Systems, Inc. (WSI) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Laboratory Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will perform aquatic toxicity bioassay testing and support a wide variety of laboratory analyses. This position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to follow established procedures to ensure high-quality results.
This role also involves flexible scheduling, including occasional rotating weekends, late-night, or early-morning laboratory checks.
At Water Systems, Inc. no two days are ever alike, but a typical workday will most likely include the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Perform aquatic toxicity bioassay testing using multiple species (primarily Ceriodaphnia dubia).
- Support laboratory analyses through preparation of materials, dilutions, and reagents.
- Perform support measurements such as dissolved oxygen, pH, and temperature.
- Assist in routine analyses of alkalinity, hardness, and specific conductance.
- Analyze samples for suspended and dissolved solids.
- Perform microbiological analyses on drinking water and wastewater.
- Filter and extract chlorophyll a for fluorometric analysis.
- Conduct routine laboratory equipment maintenance (glassware cleaning, stocking supplies, etc.).
- Transport samples to subcontract laboratories as needed.
- Run sample pickup routes and receive client samples when required.
- Participate in scheduled night/morning checks for toxicity testing.
- Assist with occasional field work, including collecting aquatic organisms (e.g., benthic macroinvertebrates/“bugs”) from streams and other sampling sites.

- Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or related field preferred (or equivalent lab experience).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under strict protocols.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including rotating weekends and night or morning checks.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for sample transport, route coverage, and field work.
- Comfortable with outdoor field sampling activities (wading in streams, handling organisms, variable weather conditions).
- Prior laboratory or field experience preferred, but not required (training provided).
Fragrance-Free PolicyWSI maintains a strict no scent or fragrance policy due to the high sensitivity of test organisms. Any fragrances, odors, or fumes on clothing, skin, or personal items can compromise testing. Candidates arriving with noticeable scents will be asked to leave.
- Hair products (sprays, gels, oils, dry shampoos, strongly fragranced shampoos/conditioners).
- Perfumes, colognes, body sprays.
- Scented lotions, moisturizers, or cosmetic products.
- Strong-smelling deodorants.
- Laundry products with strong scents (fragrance boosters, fabric softeners, dryer sheets, etc.).
- Residual odors from car/home air fresheners, candles, or incense.
- This position requires flexibility and adaptability for scheduling night and morning checks (either 10 pm to midnight, or 6 am to 8 am).
- Candidates should be comfortable with both laboratory work and outdoor field activities.
Must pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen and/or physical exam. Employees are subject to random drug/alcohol testing throughout their employment. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record. A valid South Carolina drivers license is required.
