www.erthos.com .Erthos is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our Research & Development team in our Chandler, Arizona R&D facility. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work on the cutting edge of utility-scale solar innovation, developing products that include novel mechanical systems for solar installations, autonomous cleaning robots, and associated systems. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, inventive engineer with a passion for value engineering and a desire to contribute to transformative green energy solutions.
Please note that this is a full-time, in-office position. As this role is critical in the physical design of our robotic and solar systems, candidates will need to reside within a reasonable driving distance from Chandler, Arizona and be physically in the R&D facility each day. Successful collaboration in this extremely hands-on environment requires a consistent physical presence with your team.
- Mechanical Design & Development – Lead the end-to-end design of novel mechanical systems, from concept sketches to production-ready models, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and industry standards.
- Prototyping & Testing – Build and refine prototypes, conducting detailed lab tests to validate durability, reliability, and efficiency in real-world operating conditions.
- Structural Analysis – Apply Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other modeling techniques to optimize structural integrity and performance while minimizing cost and complexity.
- Value Engineering – Focus on reducing cost and complexity while maintaining or enhancing product performance.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work closely with electrical engineers, software developers, manufacturing teams, and project managers to integrate mechanical designs into complete system solutions.
- Field Support & Feedback – Occasionally travel to installation sites to oversee implementation, troubleshoot issues, and collect insights for future product improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
- 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical product development, preferably in outdoor, industrial, or renewable energy applications.- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation.
- Familiarity with industry trends and design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA).
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance Analysis (GD&T) and the related standards.
- Demonstrated experience with hands-on lab testing and iterative prototyping.
- Familiarity with the use of and capabilities of rapid prototyping equipment (CNC, 3D printing, waterjet, laser cutter, etc.).
- Experience collaborating with manufacturing vendors to optimize designs for manufacturability, cost, and performance.
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Written and verbal proficiency in English.
- Prior experience with mobile robotics.
- Experience in solar, renewable energy, or large-scale outdoor equipment.
- Multidisciplinary physics/engineering knowledge (e.g., control systems, thermal analysis, materials science).
- Experience with mold design, sheet metal fabrication, and welding design
- Our base salary will be commensurate with your level of engineering experience. We are targeting a base salary of approximately $90,000 - $110,000.
