SUMMARY

Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned per labor agreement.

Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.

Consults outside technical support as necessary.

Diagnoses malfunctioning machinery or equipment, discusses malfunction with other personnel such as supervisor, electrician, toolmaker, or machine operator.

Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.

Makes electrical repairs and adjustments when and where trained to do so by qualified personnel.

Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.

Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.

Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.

Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts.

Starts devices to test their performance upon completion of repairs.

Operates equipment to ensure repairs have been effectively completed.

Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.

Initiates purchase order for parts.

Follows all work and safety rules.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Maintenance Mechanic Journeymen or 8 years related experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
