Position Summary: Under the direction of the Crew Leader I, the Jetting Technician is responsible for the skilled operation, maintenance, and inspection of the sewer collection system, including sewer mains and manholes, to ensure they are clean, accessible, and functioning in accordance with ACSA standards. This includes the use of specialized equipment such as flushing and rodding machines, dump trucks, backhoes, and compactors. The technician is responsible for documenting all maintenance and repair activities using Cityworks and GIS systems and must be able to call in Miss Utility tickets when required. The Jetting Technician will supervise a Utility Worker and is responsible for training and educating them on all aspects of the job, including equipment operation, system components, safety practices, and project planning. They must also plan work in their absence and ensure jobs are properly prepped. In the absence of a Crew Leader, the Jetting Technician must be able to lead a crew on major projects or emergency response work. Position is required to report during emergencies. Employee is expected to be available to respond to water or sewer system issues and other emergencies on nights, weekends, and holidays.
Duties Include: Maintain and inspect all sewer system components, including sewer mains and manholes; Ensure all sewer mains and manholes are properly cleaned, accessible, and functioning as intended; Perform routine repairs and maintenance on water and sewer infrastructure; Operate dump trucks, tampers, pipe saws, mowers, backhoes, flushing and rodding equipment; Perform service and routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment; Adhere to safety policies and attend required safety training; Supervise direct report, including training on equipment, system functions and job tasks, and perform evaluations; Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; 1 to 3 year's job-related experience; Possession of a valid drivers, permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia supplemented by a Class A combination vehicle and Tanker endorsements. Confined Space Entrant, Confined Space Rescue Team, CPR/First Aid/AED certification, NIMMS Training, 16 Hour Asbestos Operations and Maintenance, VDOT flagging certification, Intermediate Work Zone Safety, Forklift Training, 16 Hour OSHA Training, Self-Contained Breath Apparatus (SCBA) clearance. Basic and Advanced Leadership course. Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing, work in extreme heat and cold, and lift up to 100 lbs.
