Position Description:
The Instrumentation Technician has a key technical role, reporting directly to the Plant Engineer, and is responsible for maintaining controls that interact with the company’s equipment. The role involves occasional travel to company’s second location in Lynchburg, VA.
Responsibilities:
•Calibrate, verify, troubleshoot various digital and analog instrumentation using multiple communication protocols:
•Pressure, flow, vacuum, temperature, level, etc.
•4..20mA / other analog protocols
•CANBUS/Modbus RTU/Modbus TCP, etc.
•Verify and troubleshoot networking issues
•Knowledge of basic networking principles
•Read and interpret electrical schematics for installation/troubleshooting of equipment.
•Troubleshoot electrical controls (relay logic, motor starters, PLC/other controllers).
•Assist with mechanical troubleshooting, especially where electro-mechanical devices are involved.
•Maintain and review SCADA system (adding/removing/rescaling pens on charts).
•Interpret data from SCADA system or SQL queries.
•Convert units of measurement and interpret specifications
•Temperature, pressure, and density corrections for variable flow meters
•Keep up with documentation, record keeping.
Qualifications:
•Three or more years of related work experience
•Mid-to-high level ability with Excel or similar for graphing, sorting, calculating, etc.
•Some or all of the following:
•Exposure/experience with PLC programs in at least one brand of PLC (Allen Bradley, WAGO, DirectLogix, Siemens, etc.)
•Previous experience with control wiring, 3 phase (i.e. panel building, modification, troubleshooting).
•Experience with 3 phase motor and/or heating systems
•Experience with SQL: basic queries to sort and extract data from SCADA system and other databases
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
•Adaptability to changing technologies and procedures
