POSITION SUMMARY
The Marathon Petroleum’s Illinois Refining Division is seeking qualified applicants to fill full-time Instrument Technician positions at our Robinson, Illinois Refinery. Instrument technicians perform calibration and maintenance of instrumentation and associated equipment in support of refinery maintenance. This position will be on a Monday – Thursday 10-hour a day schedule.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Performs calibration/maintenance on all instrumentation and associated equipment including but not limited to, transmitters, control valves, solenoid valves, vibration equipment, temperature, PLC’s, control systems and others.
•Performs calibration/maintenance on continuous gas analyzers (CGAs), gas chromatographs (GCs) and NIR analyzers.
•Completes all required documentation (work orders, calibration sheets, etc.) in a timely manner.
•Reads loop diagrams, logic diagrams, and P&IDs and uses them effectively to perform maintenance/troubleshooting tasks
•Effectively communicates significant safety and equipment issues to immediate supervisor and all applicable levels of site management.
•Maintains professional decorum, working to foster an inclusive environment for all.
•Fosters a positive attitude, willingness to collaborate and team with others to accomplish work efficiently and to high quality standards.
•Displays dependability through work attendance and availability for callouts or off-shift work as needed.
•Ensures all work is performed in a safe manner, following applicable site/MPC Health/Safety/Environmental procedures and within applicable codes/standards.
•Performs maintenance in accordance with established written procedures. Uses drawings, equipment manuals, procedures, and proper tools to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
MINIMUM (REQUIRED) QUALIFICATIONS
•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Successful completion of a recognized Apprenticeship program, OR minimum of two years Military training in a related field, OR two years of Instrument experience
•Must pass a pre-employment written test and hands-on craft test.
•Successfully complete a rigorous pre-employment assessment process, drug/alcohol/medical screenings, and a background check. To ensure safe operations, new hires must also participate in random drug & alcohol screenings.
•Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field.
•Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a motor vehicle records check.
•Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Experience in a refinery, petrochemical, or other industrial setting.
•Performed maintenance or has work experience in the Chemical/Petrochemical or Refining Industries on Gas Chromatography and EPA Continuous Emission Monitoring Analyzers.
•Two years’ experience in instrumentation, electrical or process controls.
•Experience working with SAP and Meridium software.
SKILLS
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.).
•Knowledge of regulatory and industry requirements including but not limited to Process Safety Management (PSM), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American Petroleum Institute (API), National Electrical Code (NEC), Environmental Standards and other applicable regulations.
•Strong mechanical and troubleshooting abilities on individual devices and systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work performed at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt, and piping surfaces, while climbing over 75 feet, lifting 40 pounds plus, carrying 10-20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance and working in confined spaces, wearing proper safety equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus as necessary, use hand tools, and work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
Schedule
Employees work a 10-hour a day Monday-Thursday schedule, with overtime and some weekend work as needed.
PAY AND BENEFITS:
Starting Pay rate minimum: $37.53, with rates progressing to a top pay of $52.47. Starting rate will be determined based on review of experience and qualifications
Position eligible for Annual Cash Bonus plan with a target of 7 - 14% of annual eligible earnings.
