Operate commercial/industrial spray painting and sandblasting equipment to apply protective coatings and paints as needed to production / facilities equipment, systems and fabricated materials, and VEO products. Works from departmental controlled checklists when performing any planned activities. Please note - this position will assist with other duties as needed, such as grinding, etc.
- Under supervision, assist in the planned daily activities.
- Participate in pre-and post-planned readiness of parts and tools, for planned activities.
- Use thorough understanding of departmental operating procedures as well as job task procedures in selecting and operating painting and sandblasting equipment, tools sets, including grinders and buffers safely and the safe and proper disposal of any waste materials.
- Use thorough knowledge of industrial painting activities, including but not limited to applying coatings and mixing of paints.
- Disassemble, clean and reassemble equipment, parts and components as directed by department foreman.
- Assist in equipment installation, demolition, and decontamination.
- Set up and use ladders, scaffolding, ventilators, exhaust units and other portable or temporary equipment as necessary in accordance with safety protocols.
- Operate lifting and moving devices in order to move equipment or materials so that areas to be painted are accessible.
- May prepare and apply stencils, computer generated decals to finished products.
- Manage time to ensure proper curing of coatings will be accomplished as efficiently as possible.
- Participate in Operational Excellence teams.
- Responsible for quality and continuous improvement within job scope.
- Responsible for all actions/responsibilities as required by the departmental foreman.
- Interact and cooperate with all fellow team members to essentially achieve our ultimate goal of providing equipment that meets or exceeds our customers' expectations.
- Additional functions and requirements may be assigned by supervisors as deemed appropriate from time to time.
- Vocational training as industrial painter.
- 2 – 4 years of relevant paint experience required in a manufacturing environment.
- Basic math and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to use and maintain numerous hand tools (POWERED AND MANUAL) in accordance with safety standards and procedures.
- Able to attend training courses as assigned.
- Ability to work any shift.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
Physical requirements include but are not limited to:
- Must have physical stamina to stand 8 or more hours per day and operate painting / sandblasting equipment.
- Position requires standing or walking most of the workday and frequently involves stooping and kneeling.
- Must possess sufficient visual acuity and depth perception to complete job tasks.
- Must possess manual dexterity such as reaching, handling, fingering and touching to effectively handle material and operate painting / sandblasting equipment safely.
- Must be able to tolerate shop environment and exposures associated with painting / sandblasting, and apply appropriate safety equipment when required.
- Must be able to lift / maneuver 50lbs unassisted using proper safety techniques and/or equipment.
