Heavy Equipment Operator

Located in Beech Island, South Carolina, Atomic Sand is a premier sand mining operation under the Full Circle Family of Companies. We process nuclear grade aggregate and provide high-quality sand products to the Aiken, SC and Augusta, GA area, as well as the entire CSRA. Atomic Sand earned its name due to a large nuclear reactor built nearby, which required a superior product capable of passing stringent testing. Our onsite laboratory and experienced miners ensure that every load from Atomic Sand meets or exceeds these rigorous standards.

Role Description

We are a successful, family-owned business currently seeking to expand our dedicated team. We have an immediate opening for an experienced full-time Heavy Equipment Operator to load trucks. The operating hours for this position are Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with potential opportunities for overtime on weekends as needed. This role is usually 40 hours per week with some potential overtime. We are looking for hard-working, reliable, and safety-minded individuals. Valid three to five years of experience with front end loaders, etc. FORKLIFT DRIVER EXPERIENCE DOES NOT COUNT. Compensation ranges from $18 to $20 per hour, commensurate with experience.

This position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and may include exposure to noise, dirt, dust, and heavy machinery. Equipment used onsite to include a Dredge, Front End Loaders, Trackhoes, Bulldozers, Construction Forklift, Haul Trucks.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience operating excavators and other heavy machinery to perform various tasks such as digging, trenching, and loading materials. Must be willing to cross train if cannot operate both.

You will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the equipment, adhering to all safety protocols, and maintaining the machinery in good working condition. The position requires a strong understanding of construction processes, excellent hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work in various weather conditions. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety are essential for this role.

Main Job Duties:

- Equipment Operation: Operate various heavy equipment, including Front-End Loaders, Bulldozers, and Trackhoes, to load and redistribute dirt. Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, local, and company-specific safety, health, and environmental regulations, policies, and procedureswhile ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local, and company-specific safety, health, and environmental regulations.

- Safety & Compliance: Maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety by following all guidelines, procedures, and best practices. Remain in a constant state of alertness to prevent accidents.

- Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment remains in optimal working condition. Responsibilities include:

- Lubricating and greasing components

- Checking and maintaining fluid levels

- Refueling and adding DEF as needed

- Communication & Coordination: Utilize a 2-way radio to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors. Coordinate with other operators and site workers to ensure smooth operations.

- Site Organization & Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and orderly work environment, including company equipment and job sites, to promote safety and efficiency.

- Daily Inspections & Reporting: Perform pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections, promptly reporting any defects or needed repairs to supervisors to prevent downtime and ensure safety.

- Operational Efficiency: Efficiently operate equipment to maintain production goals while adhering to project timelines and meeting deadlines.

- Material Handling: Load and unload materials as required, monitor excavation depth and grade, and verify load weights against lifting capacities to prevent overloads.

- Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment issues to minimize disruptions to workflow.

- Teamwork & Communication: Work collaboratively with supervisors and crew members, following directions and providing input on improving operational efficiency.

- Adaptability: Operate machinery in various weather conditions and assist with other construction tasks as needed.

- Environmental Compliance: Ensure all operations align with environmental regulations and best practices.

- Training & Safety Participation: Engage in ongoing safety meetings, training sessions, and drills to stay up to date with best practices and company standards.

Qualifications:

- Must have experience operating heavy equipment such as Front-End Loaders and or Excavators. Valid three to five years of experience with Excavators.

- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

- Must be able to get in and out of equipment unassisted.

- Must pass a drug screen.

- High School diploma or GED certification preferred.

- Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.

- Ability to learn new tasks as assigned is required.

- Commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.

- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.

- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members.

- Ability to read and understand the English language.

- Comfortable working on or around water

- Being able to swim is preferred or being comfortable wearing a life jacket.

- Physical stamina and strength.

- Reliable and punctual.
