Global Chemical Process Safety Manager


Overview

The Global Chemical Process Safety Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategic safety processes that identify and minimize hazards and risks associated with chemical processes and equipment, particularly those involving hazardous materials or with process safety incident potential. This person is responsible for developing/ improving, implementing and overseeing comprehensive process safety management programs, ensuring compliance with regulations and specifically targeting our chemical manufacturing operations.

The manager will drive best-in-class performance in process safety and risk management, working closely with Global SHE's Director and the Manufacturing sites. This position requires a highly skilled professional with considerable experience in chemical process safety, chemical engineering and risk management with the ability to travel globally 20% or greater.


Duties & Responsibilities:

- Drive and leads by example all the Austin Powder values beginning with safety is the 1st priority.

- Develop and implement process safety standards and world class best practices to minimize risk.

- Lead Process Hazard analysis (PHA) and risk assessments; ensuring alignment with OSHA and / or National System for Workplace Risks (Sistema Nacional de Riesgos del Trabajo or SNRT). This should be inclusive of pre-start up safety review and shutdown.

- Define and track KPI's related to process safety and highlighting significant issues to management. Conduct safety audits.

- Develop and administer training programs related to process safety; foster a culture of continuous improvement. Develop competency requirements and training curriculum for process safety for new and experienced employees.

- Ensuring the sites comply with all local, state, and federal / country safety laws and regulations

- Lead high level investigations related to process safety as a neutral party; engage third parties where necessary and prudent. Utilize a root cause analysis and implement appropriate action plans.

- Develop, implement, and support standardized global process safety and risk management policies, standards and programs to achieve best-in-class performance. Work in collaboration with SHES resources for continuity.

- Implement Change Management processes where needed.

- Develop policy on application of additional hazard identification/risk assessment techniques (Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Human Reliability Analyses, single point of failure) and support regional teams in implementation.

- Ensure compliance with corporate standards and local regulations in engineering, projects, and daily operations processes by working closely with global engineering team.


Education and Key Qualifications:

- A bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably chemical or mechanical) is required; Advanced safety certifications (e.g. Certified Safety Professional, Process Safety Management (PSM) certification) are preferred.

- A strong understanding of process safety principles, hazard analysis techniques and relevant regulations such as OSHA and ASME standards; exposure to global standards a plus.

- Proven capability in leading process safety in a matrix organization is required.

- Excellent communication skills

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

- Experience in relevant industries (oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, explosives)

- Preferred Six sigma, 8D problem solving or similar

- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

- Willingness to work diligently to meet customer and business expectations.

- Excellent organizational and motivational skills

- Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability

- Other duties as assigned.

- This position will report to the President of Manufacturing
