Position: GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Technician - Contract
Summary:
The GIS Technician will provide technical support consisting of evaluating georeferenced data, creating site maps/plans with ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro, and liaising with project managers/field surveyors to generate content for our customers.
Reporting:
For administration, scheduling, internal projects and planning this position reports to the GIS Lead. While working on specific projects this position reports directly to the Project Manager responsible for executing the project.
Job Duties:
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
GIS Technician
•Create pre-planning maps and other products to assist with project execution
•Generate documents based on survey data
•Understand our GPS system and troubleshooting issues in the field
•Understand the element interface and project setup in this system
•Create post-project documents related to GIS
•Discuss the GIS needs, deliverables and deadlines of each project with the project managers
•Create cartographic products using ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online (poster maps, data driven pages, site plans, etc)
•Post-process the GPS field data collected by the survey team and convert it to different formats
•Prepare tracking sheets using the surveyed data collected
•Create, manage, edit and keep up to date the company’s GIS data
•Build Python scripts to automate GIS tasks
•Assist in estimate preparation and project execution
•Complete project packages and maintain records and files
•Quality Assurance and Quality Control on files and documents delivered to clients
•Manage GIS equipment to ensure field work goes smoothly
Internal Projects
•Spend quantifiable time on the updating and improvement of Company processes and procedures related to project planning, organizing and execution.
•Ensure that all project documents and procedures are adhering to the Company’s quality management process.
•Do a final Quality Control review and score on projects involved with and/or worked on.
•Assist with other company administrative tasks when required.
Safety
•Promote safe work habits and respect for the environment in the conduct of our field work.
•Attend and participate in Company safety meetings.
Knowledge, Skill & Technical Requirements:
The requirements of this position include, but are not limited to:
•A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in oil & gas or pipeline integrity industries in data analysis and GIS fields is required.
•Post-secondary education in GIS or a relevant field (bachelor’s degree, certificate, or diploma).
•A strong understanding of ESRI products is essential.
•High proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft 365 Office Suite (excel, outlook, word, etc.).
•Data manipulation skills and ability to post-process field survey data are required.
•Experience with Trimble or Leica GPS systems.
•Experience with project management software, preferably Acumatica.
•Proven professionalism, integrity and high personal standards as demonstrated by actions, personal interactions, and deliverables.
•Excellent time management and organizational skills within structured deadlines and deliverables.
•Strong problem-solving skills.
•Very strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Hours & Working Conditions:
Hours for this position will be dictated by the specific project(s) you are working on. Duties and responsibilities will be carried out primarily in an office setting.
