Job Responsibilities and Duties:
The Geotechnical Manager – Technical Services supports the US PGM Operations in initiating, defining and implementing Geotechnical strategies and plans and lead the rock mechanics/ geotechnical engineering strategy for the region to ensure mining excellence and minimize risk.
This position will also interact with South African based Group technical leaders on a regular basis. Ensuring that the technical team operates in a safe and environmentally excellent manner is paramount to the success of the US PGM Segment. This position will build an environment that integrates the technical services group into a high performing team which works with operations to challenge existing norms and inspire creative solutions. The Geotechnical Manager of Technical Services will lead the group in maintaining collaborative relationships with all departments leading to high-quality, fact-based decision making.
Qualifications and Skills:
•Provide leadership for a safe and productive mine technical team.
•Actively support Safety and Health Management and Environmental systems and regulatory compliance.
•Coach and mentor the Engineering Department in accordance with Sibanye-Stillwater leadership values to ensure maximum support to mine operations and maintenance activities as well as other mine support groups through safely optimizing mine operational systems, planning and procedures.
•Regularly interact and be visible with the workforce, demonstrating high level leadership qualities.
•Work with site senior leadership team in continuing the development of a focused, engaged culture throughout the organization.
•Establish and execute short- and long-term planning strategies that both recognize and reduce risk to the operations, while maximizing value of the resource.
•Develop and execute strategic workforce planning and organizational development with the technical team.
•Foster cooperation, collaboration, and innovation to ensure that realistic technical goals are being set and met.
•Engage proactively with Group technical and audit teams, positively representing US PGM technical and operational interests.
•Drive continuous improvement and innovation for functional areas of responsibility.
•Work cooperatively with site leadership teams in overseeing multiple work groups and support positive growth with an experienced team of technical professionals.
•Be pro-active in all aspects of the operation; safety, effective and efficient utilization of resources, productivity, Continuous Improvement initiatives, and teamwork across the site.
•Demonstrate positive two-way communication, fair and consistent administration of Company policies and procedures, and responsiveness to employee concerns.
•Develop and communicate goals in cooperation with both the executive and site leadership teams.
•Drafting and reviewing the US PGM geotechnical standards and procedures, and standardizing these across operations.
•Performing technical audits and assurance reviews for operations and projects.
•Providing technical input into mine designs, extraction strategies, projects and technical support to operations. Identifying and communicating best geotechnical practice.
•Designing, implementing and managing effective long-term geotechnical engineering strategies and systems.
•Reporting and advising on geotechnical findings and trends.

•Proficiency in mine engineering systems, cost management and productivity enhancement.
•Solid understanding and application of MSHA regulations and compliance.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in the preparation of operating and capital budgets.
•Experience with relevant Geotechnical modeling software packages and familiarity with Deswik and/or Vulcan software packages. Proficient in MS Office 365.
Preferred:
•Master's Degree in Mine Engineering and/or MBA.
•Experience with narrow vein underground mining methods. Diversity of experience across commodities and mining methods is advantageous.
•Operational leadership experience.
Education & Experience
•Degree in Mine Engineering or related technical degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
•Minimum of ten years relevant geotechnical experience, with 5 years at a management level and/or experience as a Geotechnical Technical expert
