About The Role
The Geospatial Solutions Supervisor is responsible for leading geospatial data processing, quality control, and solutions engineering for the survey department. This role designs, implements, and optimizes geospatial workflows, data pipelines, and platforms that support LiDAR, GPR, RGB/thermal imagery, and GIS deliverables. The Geospatial Solutions Supervisor plays a key role in research and development of new service offerings, manages day-to-day data operations, and collaborates closely with field teams to ensure accurate, high-value deliverables. The position also maintains a working understanding of field operations so that basic operational support can be provided when the Field Operations Supervisor is unavailable.
Key Responsibilities Geospatial Solutions and Innovation:
- Identify opportunities to improve survey data processing pipelines, geospatial
- Design and implement custom tools, scripts, and processes (e.g., automation,
batch processing, API integrations) to enhance data throughput and consistency.
- Pilot new technologies and platforms such as AI-assisted classification, advanced
- Lead or actively contribute to research and development initiatives for new
- Stay current with emerging geospatial, UAS, and data analytics technologies, and
integrate relevant advancements into operational practices.
Data Management And Quality Control
- Oversee the ingestion, organization, and processing of LiDAR, GPR, thermal
imagery, and other field data collected by internal teams and partners.
- Establish and enforce quality control standards and checklists to ensure data
- Manage GIS datasets, including schema design, attribution standards, and
- Coordinate with field teams to resolve data quality issues, identify root causes,
- Ensure data security, integrity, and appropriate backup/archiving practices for all
geospatial datasets.
Platform And Workflow Integration
- Configure and manage geospatial platforms and tools (e.g., LiDAR processing
software, GIS systems, cloud-hosted data portals) used by the department.
- Work with internal IT, software vendors, and cloud providers to optimize system
- Develop and maintain documented workflows for data processing, asset
- Implement and manage API-based integrations and data exchanges between
- Support user training and troubleshooting for internal staff working within
geospatial platforms.
Technical Leadership And Mentoring
- Provide technical leadership to Field Survey Data Processing Analysts and other
- Develop training materials and conduct sessions to upskill team members on
LiDAR processing, GIS tools, and data QA processes.
- Serve as a technical point of escalation for complex data or workflow issues.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the geospatial
team.
Client-Facing Technical Consulting
- Collaborate with project managers and business development to understand
client needs and translate them into geospatial solutions.
- Present and explain technical approaches, data products, and innovation
roadmaps to clients in a clear, consultative manner.
- Support proposal writing and scope development by defining geospatial
- Participate in client review meetings to address technical questions and gather
feedback for ongoing improvement.
Cross-Functional Support And Collaboration
- Work closely with the Field Operations Supervisor to ensure that field
- Provide guidance to field teams on data capture standards, naming conventions,
- Maintain a base-level understanding of field operations, equipment, and safety
considerations to provide limited operational support when needed (e.g.,
advising on data collection parameters, reviewing field routes for data
sufficiency).
- Share insights from geospatial analysis that can improve field planning, safety,
and operational efficiency.
Administrative And Strategic Support
- Assist the Superintendent of Field Services with strategic planning related to
- Support documentation efforts, including SOPs, best practices, and technical
- Contribute to budget planning and tracking for software licenses, cloud
- Perform other tasks related to the geospatial and survey department as directed
by the Superintendent
Key Qualifications Education:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Geography, GIS, Remote
Sensing, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent
professional experience.
- Strong foundational knowledge in geospatial technology and principles.
- FAA Part 107 Certification and/or knowledge of UAS operations preferred.
- Extensive expertise in LiDAR data processing, including understanding of LAS file
- Proficiency in GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and integration between
- Experience with scripting/automation tools (e.g., Python, batch processing, or
- Familiarity with AI/ML-assisted classification, point cloud analytics, or similar
- Strong knowledge of T&D infrastructure, including power lines, poles, and
related components.
Operational Management
- Experience managing geospatial data pipelines, project queues, and deadlines
- Ability to work collaboratively with both office-based and field-based staff, and
to travel occasionally to project locations as needed.
Software Proficiency
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Pro, and geospatial
software platforms (LiDAR processing tools, GIS, and/or photogrammetry tools).
- Experience with data integration tools, cloud-hosted platforms, and
understanding of API usage for system integration.
Communication
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in client-facing
- Ability to document technical work clearly and produce concise technical
reports, standards, and training materials.
