What You’ll Do

Plan and Execute Investigations. Plan and execute geologic investigations, mine sequencing, and reserves evaluations of existing properties and potential acquisitions. Make recommendations regarding acquisitions, quality control, hydrologic issues, and mine plans.

Build Models. Utilize a variety of geologic data to build complex 2- and 3-dimensional geologic models of resources. Construct topographic maps, geologic maps and cross-sections.

Prepare Reports. Prepare technical reports and present findings to management and operations personnel.

Plan Drilling Programs. Plan drilling programs to evaluate resources. Document cores through graphic geologic logs, measurements, and photographs. Make recommendations for testing of cores.

Assist with Calculations. Assist with volumetric measurement and annual reserve calculations.

Maintain Data. Maintain geologic data and files on the network server in up-to-date status, following all departmental and company policies.

Champion Continuous Improvement. Stay abreast of professional and technical developments to maintain and improve knowledge and skills needed for superior job performance.

Conduct Mine Plan Assessments. Conduct annual geological inspections to improve short range directions for operations management.

Skills

Skills You’ll Need :

Education. Must have a BS or MS in Geology, Mining Engineering, or related field. P.G. and/or P.E. preferred.

Experience. Must have a minimum of 5 years experience, construction aggregate industry preferred.

Functional Knowledge. Strong knowledge of accepted geologic and mining engineering principles and practices is required. Knowledge of SE U.S. geology deposits is preferred. Must be familiar with various geologic sampling techniques, aggregate quality, and testing procedures. Must have a comprehensive knowledge of structural geology, geotechnical analysis, and slope design.

Industry Knowledge. Knowledge of the construction aggregate and asphalt industry is a plus.

Field Mapping Skills. Must have the ability to conduct field mapping and log cores. Knowledge of field mapping techniques, surveying, and geophysical methods of subsurface exploration is required.

Technology Skills. Must have the ability to use appropriate computer software at an intermediate level, including: ESRI, MS Office, AutoCAD, and Carlson. Must have knowledge of spatial databases and geographic information systems.

Interpersonal Skills. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to interface with all levels of operations and management, members of other VMC departments, and representatives of regulatory agencies.

Time Management Skills. Must have the ability to complete projects on time and within budget. Must have a strong work ethic. Must have the ability to work independently, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to changing priorities.
